The Alcatel 1B is a great first phone for kids. It is priced well for a student phone (pricing will vary by carrier and ranges from $90 – $110 CAD). This phone is a solid option when you want your kids to be able to stay in touch, enjoy camera and internet but without the worry of expensive phones with broken screens, getting lost, or even stolen.

I know many parents struggle with the question “At what age do I give my kid a phone?”. The answer is personal depending on situation. For me, it is in middle school when the child walks to and from school on their own. In the middle school years, they get more independence. And a little more freedom of hanging out after-school and on weekends. So a phone is handy to keep in touch and put the responsibility on them to let you know where they are, who they are with, and when they are coming home. Of course, this comes with the conversation about where exactly they can go (stay local) and what is the expectation for coming home (for us it’s always be home by dinner).

    I find the “All day battery” a great feature – I wouldn’t want to worry that my daughter’s phone would die while at school or with her friends and I couldn’t get in touch with her, so a long life battery would put my mind at ease.

    I love the abilities of the wellbeing dashboard. I think that’s a very important feature, especially for my daughter who will be getting her very first phone soon.

    This sounds like the perfect starter phone. I especially appreciate the power-efficient 3000 mAh battery with the battery saver mode so you don’t have to worry the phone dying and not being able to reach whomever.

    I love the size and the long life on the battery, also the parental control it has if I let my 8 year old grandson use it. He is a whiz on phones and computers. He can find just about anything, so that is why he needs the control feature!

    I like that it has easy to use parental controls and the well being tracker. We are looking to get our oldest daughter a phone because she does a fair bit of babysitting and most places don’t have home phones anymore!

    I like how as a parent I can easily set up parental controls with the Alcatel 1b. And as an introductory phone for my child, the price point is super great for (realistically) if my child loses or breaks it I don’t have to be as worried as the higher priced phones.
