40 Writing and Blog Prompts
Honestly, my best writing prompt is to walk away from my computer. Go for a walk, indulge in a hot shower, heck even vacuum (yes, I said that) – for me – getting away from the screen is the best way to get back in the writing game.
Sometimes the best way round writer’s block is to get away from writing.
About those 40 Writing and Blog Prompts
People usually want to learn something when they read. They want to be inspired. They want reading to be easy and fun. So give them what you’ve got. Is it a good story? A tip? A suggestion? A recipe? A craft? A news story? Don’t be preachy about it but give them what they want. Good writing on a good topic. At the end of the day. That’s what every reader wants.
Think timely and ever green content when you write (this goes for magazine stories, blog posts, and even books). A timely piece is something that is on top of a trend – it informs people when you are on the cusp of it hitting big. Like a fashion trend. A holiday DIY (remember magazines usually work 6 months ahead to pitch your seasonal stories well in advance).
An evergreen piece is something classic. It stand the test of time. A recipe. A round-up of inspiring women through history. The best questions to ask at an interview. When I mentioned to my book distributor my fear that my books would become obsolete he told me “food, gardening, and kids’ activity books sell year after year” – that makes my books evergreen.
When all else fails…write about what you know (whether it is timely content or evergreen content)…your voice comes by your passion/inspiration/curosity/authority on a subject. From that you cure writer’s block.
Some great tips here! If one is stuck for something to write about, you can become unstuck quickly by reading this list.
If I’m writing something, usually a long letter to my friends, I find it best to take breaks in between, it freshens up my mind and memory, or appears too. 🙂
