When You Have To Take Your Glasses Off To Read…

June 27, 2017 22 Comments

When You Have To Take Your Glasses Off To Read…yes, this is me. And I’ve noticed it more in the last year (sigh, I’m aging). When I have to read a recipe or a book…even fill out a school field trip form…I have to take my glasses off (I wear glasses for distance). The last time I had an eye exam…my eye care specialist told me I was on the road to reading glasses. Which is why when I received an invitation to the Alcon Kitchen Party event at Evergreen Brick Works to discuss multifocal contact lenses I was intrigued..I didn’t know multifocal contact lenses existed!

When you have to take your glasses off to read, Alcon Multifocal Contact Lenses

When You Have To Take Your Glasses Off To Read…

As you get 40+, you experience presbyopia (it’s a natural thing…no escaping it). Let me give you a clearer view (see what I did there) and then I’ll tell you about how the Alcon kitchen party got me thinking…

presbyopia

The most common symptoms of presbyopia are blurred vision at normal reading distance, including while wearing normal glasses or contact lenses, headaches, eyestrain and fatigue while reading or doing close-up work. Nearly everyone experiences presbyopia; scientists believe this to be a natural part of aging that cannot be prevented; however, there are many treatment options for presbyopia including bifocals, reading glasses, and multifocal contact lenses.Alcon

Chef Brad Long led a cooking demonstration at the event – while wearing the Alcon lenses. He explained how valuable the lenses were because he is able to read a recipe, chop foods, and interact with others in the kitchen. Near, intermediate and distance vision.

That got me thinking; I have to do that too! Every day. Further, my take-off-glasses-to-read/put-on-glasses-to-see routine is getting cumbersome (the number of times I walk around trying to find my glasses is laughable…really…because I’ll take them off to read something…then start doing something else…then, realize I can’t see). A multifocal solution makes sense.

As I get older, I know my eye health will be changing. It’s good to be in the know about options not only for my eye health but also for my lifestyle.

Alcon offers Dailies Total1® Multifocal contact lenses: This innovative multifocal lens provides both seamless distant, intermediate and near vision, and the outstanding comfort of the Dailies Total1 water gradient lens technology. Ask your eye care specialist about Alcon Dailies Total1® Multifocal contact lenses.

Disclosure: This post is in partnership with Alcon. Opinions are my own.

I try to take care of my eyes the best I can. I don’t have to wear glasses, but lots of people in my family do. I want to be sure I put that off for as long as possible.

I was born with a congenital cataract in my left eye. Eye health has always been super important to me since I only have good vision in my right eye!

I know I am going to need reading glasses very soon. I will have to check out multifocal contact lenses. I would love to not have to wear glasses.

Eye health is so important. I have worn glasses for a number of years and I find that my eyesight has started to change.

I have been wearing glasses for four years now and my prescription has just changed. I don’t like getting older.

It’s definitely a good idea to stay on top of the changes in your eyesight! Multifocal lenses sound like good choices for your situation!

This sounds like a great product for those who need it. I wear glasses as well. I have to keep mine on for reading though.

Taking care of your eyes is one of those things that most people forget about when it comes to their health. It’s great to see vision discussed in such an interesting way and hopefully it encourages people to take better care of their eyes.

Thank goodness I do not wear glasses right now. However, my daughter and husband do wear them.

No, I have never heard of multifocal before. I wear bifocals. Glad you found what works best for you.

Oh man, I’ve never had glasses in my life, but lately I can tell my vision is changing. Now granted I did just have a baby and I’m told it takes a bit for vision to be normal again after giving birth, but I’m just waiting for it to go for good. I’ve been having an issue with distance and close up reading.
I had no idea bifocal contacts existed either! That’s kind of cool.

I just got glasses because I have such a hard time seeing. It’s so hard to deal with the changes.

So important! Eye health is one of the most important things but so overlooked. My daughter has glasses so I pay close attention to eye health.

These might be what I’ll be needing. I wear contacts for distance. Then I have to wear readers on top of those if I want to see up close.

The more computer work I do, the more I feel my eyes are slipping. I need to go see the optometrist but don’t want to face the truth! Thanks for this article.

My eyes have been going through so many changes. I wear transitional glasses right now, because I need them for seeing far and near. Cooking with glasses is hard for me because they steam up!

I had bad eye sight in my right eye and after years of wearing contacts in two eyes then one eye, I talked to my doctor about laser eye surgery. It was the best decision for me and I don’t regret it one bit.
