Ok, I’ll admit – I had a plan. Our March break staycation balanced kid-friendly boredom busters and mom-friendly find-something-to-do free time. And it was good! Sharing my favourite March Break Activities – #NikonMOMents. From baking with kids to family field trips there’s lots to do on a staycation!
First we took my awesome Banana Bread Recipe and turned them into a freezer batch of banana muffins.
And I’m a big fan of having kids in the kitchen. So, when we were hosting a play date and the big kids wanted to make homemade fruit smoothies – I was all for it.
Did you notice it takes 3 kids and 6 hands to make homemade fruit smoothies? Teamwork at it’s best. And the smoothies turned out really well…

All of my March break photos were taken with my Nikon HDSLR D3300 with a 35 mm lens (I happen to LOVE the aperture setting as seen in the smoothie close up above). It is also great for taking wide landscape pictures like this one of the Don Valley…
Yes, we trekked over ice covered with slush on this family field trip along the Don River. Having a staycation doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors!
As I mentioned, I balanced programmed time (like that family field trip) with free kid time (learning how to keep yourself entertained is a life skill!). Down time consisted of lots of reading (dd2 is reading Eclipse – apparently she’s team Jacob which as a Team Edward member – I just don’t understand).
And we ended up circling back to baking; making my Apple Crisp Recipe with my son (the big kids went downtown by themselves on the TTC – sigh – parenting doesn’t get easier when the kids can entertain themselves by going downtown alone – it just makes it more teeth grinding).
And all in all – March break was just that – a break from the routine of backpacks and school lunches and homework.
Disclosure: I am part of the Mom Central Canada Nikon MOMents team and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

You did a lot with your kids! That’s awesome! Too bad it was so cold out still or else we would have been to the park. At least he went to SportPlay for a few days!

love the ‘feet’ photo, a good method of showing a time-out. Also loved the landscape photos, hopefully winter is behind us now – well apart from the snow they’ve forecast here for Fri and Sat. 🙁
