This is an easy activity – a quick boredom buster – turning stuff you already have in your kitchen drawers into a fun arts n’ crafts activity. My GLAD press n’ seal Suncatcher activity takes no prep (and clean up is a breeze). My 4 year old had a lot of fun and his GLAD press n’ seal Suncatcher turned into a nice kid-made window decoration.
GLAD press n’ seal Suncatcher
You will need:
- Washable markers (I like Crayola)
- Glad press n’ seal (I had some in my kitchen already)
Directions to make a GLAD press n’ seal Suncatcher
- Cut a length of GLAD press n’ seal paper (I did about a 8 1/2 x 11 size but you could go bigger or smaller depending on your window size).
- Stick GLAD press n’ seal Suncatcher sticky side against window (my son could stand at our window so I put the paper at his eye level. If your child has to stand on a chair to access window level – be sure to take safety precautions including holding on to child while he/she stands on the chair).
- Instruct child to colour on paper (only paper and reinforce this is not a “colour on the windows” activity*).
- Watch child doodle and colour their sun catcher.
- Leave up as kid-made window decoration.
* By using washable markers – you can easily wipe down windows with damp paper towel and any markings will wash off. It’s just general good advice to tell kids not to colour on windows on purpose…just in case one day they try do colour on windows…and they don’t have washable markers in hand.
Suncatcher ideas
- Cut the press n’ seal paper into a seasonal shape (tree for autumn, snowman for winter, heart for spring, sun for summer)
- Use a ruler and divide the paper into 4 boxes so that they kids can make a story board
- Use small and larger pieces of paper to make a suncatcher mural
- Have kids trace the silhouettes of the objects they see through the press n’ seal paper

How easy is this? Great craft idea! I am running out with all the snow days we’ve had.
It was awesomely easy. I bet you could even cut a bigger piece of the clingy paper – put a smaller one under and do tracing. Like older kids could trace a picture of a princess or superhero (or seasonal picture) and then the kids could colour – then remove smaller paper – and they’d have a suncatcher with an actual image drawn by them.
this sounds like a lot of fun and in the end you have a wonderful home-made sun catcher too. 🙂
This sure sounds like lots of fun
Very cute idea, would of never thought to use Glad Press N Seal to do it. Thanks for sharing.
