7 New Family Movies on DVD

December 18, 2014 4 Comments

One of my most favourite things is watching a family movie on Friday nights. It’s a blissful routine in our house. With school breaks, long car trips, and holiday blahs approaching I thought it timely to put together 7 New Family Movies on DVD (a little something for everyone from toddler to grown-up)…

New Family Movies on DVD

7 New Family Movies on DVD

  1. Mr. Peabody and Sherman (great for younger kids/whole family)
  2. Rio 2 Sing-along (great for younger kids/whole family)
  3. How To Train Your Dragons 2 (older kids/whole family)
  4. X-Men Days of Future Past (older kids/whole family)
  5. Earth To Echo (whole family – have tissue!)
  6. The Fault In Our Stars (tweens, teens and adults)
  7. The Book Thief (tweens, teens and adults)

A few tips on How To Make A Great Family Movie Night…

  • Eat a light, healthy, dinner. And then have those indulgent snacks that go so well with movies! Popcorn, ice cream, cookies, chocolate. Why not!?! Everything in moderation of course.
  • Unsure if a movie is appropriate? Read the rating and plot synopsis on the back of the dvd.
  • Ask for recommendations from friends. We have watched How To Train Your Dragons 2 over and over and it is a family favourite! Exciting, dynamic, entertaining, funny…from toddler to adult we all enjoy it. Though the dragons may be a flag for very sensitive children, my three year old was very comfortable watching them.
  • Blankets and pjs. Somehow blankets and pjs make movie watching better.
  • Turn off devices. Disconnect from work, social media and email. Connect with your kids instead.
  • Darken the room. Turn the blinds. Pull the curtains. Lower the lights. It makes movie watching so much more.
  • Quiet please. I’m a big sshh-er (in a nice way!) when it comes to movies. Stop talking – watch the movie!
  • All of the above 20th Century Fox family movie dvds are now available in major stores
  • Get the books. The Fault In Our Stars and The Book Thief are bestsellers – you should read them (so should your tweens and teens!).

Family movie nights are my fave thing… and the kids really love them too. All the above are great films, but have to check out ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. Thanks!
