I remember doing this as a kid myself – the Classic Popsicle Stick Box Craft. No screens. No batteries. No cables. Simple boredom busting at it’s best – a hands-on, kid-made, project. This is a great activity at home, at the cottage, or on vacation. And this Classic Popsicle Stick Box Craft is so easy for all ages…
You will need:
- Popsicle sticks
- White school glue
- Activity mat or newspaper (to protect your surface)
- Start by lining up a popsicle stick at the top and bottom of where you would like your Classic Popsicle Stick Box Craft
- Next, place a line of glue along each of the top and bottom popsicle sticks
- Next, place popsicle sticks vertically (and keep them tight) connecting them to the top and bottom popsicle sticks (we used 11 popsicle sticks in the above pictures). This is your base.
- Then, glue and stack popsicle sticks along the border of your base. How far up depends on how deep you want your Classic Popsicle Stick Box Craft.
- Repeat steps 1-3 should you want to make a cover.
Switch it up: try to switch up this activity by using different shapes. Rectangle. Octagon. Hexagon. Pentagon. Not only are you trying something new…it’s geometry (which is MATH but ssshhh…don’t tell the kids).

One of my biggest inspirations for writing Boredom Busters were the many, many, projects (like this Classic Popsicle Stick Box Craft) which my Mom did with me growing up. We baked. And painted. And built. These boredom busters not only passed the time…but created some of my favourite childhood memories.
I share this (ok – confession – today is one of those “going down memory lane” kind of days for me) but also to just encourage you to say YES to doing some boredom busters with your kids. Especially the classic ones.
I made that as a kid! Time consuming but fun.
I made one of these too as a kid! I forgot all about them, would be a great activity to do with my niece! Thanks for the reminder!
Use some glue, popscicle stcks and you imagination, your ideas are endless
very true – you could switch it up and make a picture frame, shadow box…etc…
Oh cooool.
I also did this sort of thing as a child (and that’s a long long time ago!), amazing how these things all come back with time 🙂
