Making Packed Lunches

September 23, 2013 6 Comments

Sharing ideas about making packed lunches has been a back-to-school theme here on Parent Club. Because as much as packing lunch is a chore – it’s also really important to the health of our kids. It teaches them about eating well as well as fueling their bodies for their busy school days.

Making Packed Lunches

In making packed lunches my top tips are: fruit or vegetable for 1st snack (think: grapes), main lunch (think: bagel and cheese, pretzel sticks and drink), followed by a sweet treat for 2nd snack (think: brownie). Our school actually requires a 1st snack in the morning, full lunch at midday, and then 2nd snack in the afternoon.

Despite the fact I have packed lunch for years, every September I am on the look out for inspiration for the School Lunch Menu or some new School Lunch Ideas.

I just had to share this video because it inspired me to making dinner into making a packed lunch. Watch Zannat Reza (Registered Dietitian) and Christine Cushing (TV Chef and Author) answer the question “Do you have any ideas for making packed lunches for those days when I’m in a rush, and I need something quick?”

Love the idea of making use of previous meals (and isn’t Christine’s school lunch idea great?! Complete, nutritious, and delish).

Disclosure: #SPON and so appreciate the lunch inspiration!

I love Christine’s idea too! I found, when making lunches for my kids, I very often used leftovers in various forms, in either sandwiches, wraps, soups etc.

Last night’s pasta was today’s school lunch. Love cooking once for 2 different meals!

We often use dinner from the night before as lunch! Great way to use up leftovers and save money!

My daughter will be going to school in sept and she is beyond picky. So I think making fun school lunches for her is going to be really challenging.
