Easy Butter Tarts Recipe

May 9, 2017 39 Comments

I grew up thinking these tarts were an everywhere dessert. But apparently it’s a Canadian thing. This Easy Butter Tarts Recipe is delicous and simple. Makes 18 mini tarts (perfect for dessert tonight!).

Easy Butter Tarts Recipe via www.parentclub.ca
BUTTER TARTS RECIPE

  • One package frozen mini tart shells
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 butter
  • 1/4 brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  1. Prepare frozen mini tart shells according to package.
  2. In a bowl, mix together butter, raisins, brown sugar, maple syrup, beaten egg and vinegar.
  3. Pour butter tarts mixture evenly into each tart shell.

Bake in 375 oven 12-15 min.

Note: Some people put pecans in these tarts. If you are a pecan lover – add 1/4 cup pecans to the mixture before baking.

You could certainly make your own pastry for these tarts. I, personally, just do not have the gift for pastry. Some people have the touch for pastry…I do not. But I can make cake and bread until the cows come home!

I serve these tarts on a tray with mini apple tarts and brownies. Goes great with tea and coffee (milk for kids). It’s a great 2 bite dessert tray – kinda perfect after a big meal when you want something sweet (but not a big something sweet).

Ask me if you can freeze these and my honest answer is: I don’t know. They’ve never lasted more than 2 days in an airtight container because everyone eats them! Though really, it takes less than 30 minutes to make them so you can easily make them the night before (or day of) any event and then store them in a container. Best served room temperature.

As a fellow Canadian, I love butter tarts! My husband likes raisins in them, and I prefer pecans. I make a half batch each way.

These look super tasty and I even have almost everything needed at home! I really like the idea of tarts instead of a full sized pie, too, because it’s easier to just have a little. Thanks for sharing!

Yum, these look delicious! I too love pecans so if I were to make these, I’d add in pecans to mine as well. I’d love to enjoy one of these tarts with a cup of coffee or tea in the afternoon!

Butter tarts are my very favourite dessert. Over the last Christmas holidays I had occasion to try my friend’s recipe and they were the very best I had ever tasted. Her method was different from mine: she put currants and a pat of butter in each tart shell before adding a mixture of the rest of the ingredients. Mouth watering!!

you should edit your reciepe to explain if Step 1 (Prepare frozen mini tart shells according to package) means to pre-cook the tart shells or if you mean “thaw them” according to the package. The “tenderflake” version says both are options but your recipe doesn’t specify.
