This List of Grants in Canada for Writers was inspired by a Getting The Grant webinar put forth by The Writer’s Union of Canada. I thought it might be valuable to have a one-stop-destination to find the top Canadian writer’s grants.
Why should writer’s apply for grants?
A grant can aid you in Researching a work in progress. For example, a research grant can go towards the expense of a visit a special collection in a museum.
Funds can help you with Professional Development (i.e. attending a conference)
The funding can help with travel costs (this goes into the research category…if you have to travel to a place for interviews, seeing a historical site, etc)
Grants for writers can help Develop a project (i.e. re-draft version 3 of a manuscript)

Is the link listed for Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council correct? It looks very spamlike.
You are right Barry – that did look spammy indeed. Researched and linked to a different (non-spammy) Nova Scotia Arts website. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
