The Beauty of This Activity

This is a craft for now and an activity to play with this afternoon. It uses simple things you can easily find around your home (so it’s basically cost free). You can make a bunch and have spinning competitions as a group or the kids can play individually

You will need:

  • cd (a dvd will work too)
  • marble
  • plastic bottle top
  • glue
  • decorations (if you like)

In case you are a visual person (I am) – here’s a quick video tutorial of how to make a spinning top using a cd…

How to make a DIY Spinner

Directions:

  1. Glue marble into centre hole of the cd (be liberal with your glue because you want it to stay in place)
  2. Allow glue to dry
  3. Next, glue around rim of the plastic bottle top.
  4. Place bottle top on cd (opposite side to the marble), covering the hole.
  5. Allow glue to dry.
  6. Next, decorate plastic top side (this is the top of your spinning top) as desired.
  7. Spin and enjoy!

As I mention in the video – How To Make A Spinning Top Using A CD – this kid craft project a great way to encourage creativity and recycling. And I’m sure most of you already have the “ingredients” in your home or classroom.
