8 Earth Day Activities

Turn off faucet when brushing your teeth. It’s an easy activity for water conservation. Use the brushing time to hum a song together.

Plant a seed in a cup. Apple seed. Herb seeds (basil anyone?). Flower seeds. It’s a fun way to watch the wonder of growing things right in your own home (or garden).

Play outside rather than watch a screen. Saves power. Also a lot more active for your bodies.

Recycle. Food containers. Paper. You can even recycle clothes your outgrown by putting them in a bag and dropping them off at a donation centre.

Share a book. It is a way to recycle too. Share a book with a friend. Or put it in a little free library in your neighbourhood. Don’t have one? Perhaps put up your own little free library in your yard so that people have a place in the community to share books!

Turn off lights when not in use. It saves energy. This reminds me…I need to look for an eco-friendly night light for the kids!

Use both sides of paper. My kids call this GOSE (read: goose) paper. It’s for Good On One Side.  So you can still write on the other side. Use both sides for homework, notes, artwork, and more.

Pick up garbage. On the street. In your school yard. In your neighbours’ yard. Pick up the garbage that others throw away and make your part of the Earth a little cleaner.
