How To Host a Product Potluck

November 23, 2016

Have extra, unused bottles of sunscreen from the summer? Perfume samples? Lipstick grab bags? I’m going to share How To Host a Product Potluck because I know we all have some unused beauty products in drawers which could use a good home.

I routinely give unused beauty products to friends and family. Not only does it lighten my “stuff” – it generally comes with a smile and big THANK YOU from the recipient. It’s good to share some good in the world…

How To Host a Product Potluck

The beauty items* you gather have to be unused (because who wants someone’s old lipstick – yuck!). Sample size for full size order both fine. Me? I always have a healthy supply of Aveeno products so I know what I’ll be bringing.

*product potlucks don’t have to be just beauty items. You can expand it to be a potluck of anything…candles, housewears, gift certificates, clothes with tags, costume jewelry…and if anyone does a purse potluck please invite me because I have a thing for bags 🙂

And the products don’t have to be big-ticket items. They can be extras you’ve bought on sale. Gifts you just never used. Stuff you bought for a trip but came back unopened.

Next invite your friends over with instructions: product potluck – bring your unused goodies!

Make tea and coffee (obvious reasons). Alternatively, you could offer a glass of wine (again…reasons should be obvious). Food can be served if you like (coffee cake if you are doing tea & coffee or cheese and crackers if you’re going the wine route).

Have a flat space available for product display (think: coffee table, buffet, or even dining room table). You could even go as far as to make “stations” for hair, skin, make-up, etc…

Then, enjoy the product potluck! Chat. Sip. Give a product or take a product. It’s a lot of FUN!

It’s almost like a secret Santa gift giving idea. Everyone goes home with a surprise.

I have way too much sunscreen that will never be used before it’s expiration date (sunscreen does have expiration dates right?! – even if they don’t – no one needs 5+ tubes of unused sunscreen). Maybe one of my friends needs some sunscreen for a winter trip? Well, my potluck will be aptly timed then.

We all have a little too much. At Thanksgiving we often potluck. At Christmas we give presents. Why not combine the two to make your own occasion with friends. 🙂

SHARE: What do you think of a product potluck?…

Disclosure: This post is brought to you in partnership with Aveeno. As always, the opinions are mine.

Great idea! This is a fun way to get together and to giveaway/exchange items that would otherwise be wasted.
