Recently, I found out I’m a socially conscious leader according to an online Leadership Quiz I took at the Capital One Canada booth at the Enactus World Cup. And I think this is spot on…it’s not only the type of leader I am…but the kind of person I strive to be.

Socially conscious leader, visionary leader, laissez-faire leader, democratic leader, or pilot leader? What I liked best about the Capital One Leadership Quiz is that it was so visual and engaging. And the questions were out of the box – so you really answered with what you felt strongest in your heart.
My answer to “Which mode of transportation best represents your leadership style?” was the dragon boat picture. Why? Because I think leading is about providing direction yet working together as a team. My favourite projects are the ones which are collaborative yet organized.

Findings from the 2016 Capital One Canada Leadership Study
- 80 per cent of Canadians say it’s important to them that the company they work for gives back to the community
- 76 per cent of Canadians say that business leaders who are socially conscious are the most effective
- 77 per cent of Canadians think it’s important for a company’s leaders to actively promote charitable causes/issues
- Canadians think the top traits of being an effective leader are:
- Their ability to coach employees (47 per cent)
- Straightforwardness (41 per cent)
- Being hands on (36 per cent)
