Halloween Tips: Costumes, Decor and More!

October 10, 2016

It’s time for these Halloween Tips: Costumes, Decor and More! We just brought up the Halloween costume box (yes, I have a box of Halloween costumes from years-gone-by) and I’m inspired to share ways to make Halloween a little bit easier this year…

Halloween Tips: Costumes, Decor and More!

Do-it-yourself Halloween costumes are frugal and fabulous. Which is why I have a box of Halloween costumes. I re-use and upcycle (and sometimes hand-me-down). Take one pair of denim overalls – and switch it into three different Halloween costumes (that’s 3 years of costumes you don’t have to shop for)…

I am also a fan of a Halloween costume exchange. Hand down (or sell at a consignment shop) your gently used Halloween costumes. Or do it between friends (Halloween costume exchange and wine & cheese go together right?!).

And making Halloween costumes a boredom buster for kids is so good.  This one year my daughter wanted to go as an IPod (and it was fantastic). It took two weekends of finding a box, cutting box (we helped with that), painting it, and decorating it. Two weekends of creative fun! And look how good it turned out…

And it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t share a Halloween activity for lil’ ones. Ghost footprints are a great souvenir of how tiny their feet are…and it becomes a pretty cool Halloween decoration for the home.

And, this next one is an grown-up Halloween craft idea…I turned a thrift store tray into a ghoulishly good Halloween tray. Cost was very low but my fun factor was high as a bat.

I have another Halloween craft idea brewing…it’s glow in the dark…stay tuned for that one!

We always used to “make” our costumes as kids. It’s something I’m trying to get our son to do too.
