Fall Casual Outfits: How To Wear Leggings

October 7, 2016 22 Comments

My teenagers inspired this post on Fall Casual Outfits: How To Wear Leggings. Why? Because leggings are their uniform. And apparently all of their friends. And I love the idea of the comfort of black leggings…but as a woman “of a certain age” I just can’t pull off leggings-as-pants (no one over 17 years old should either).

So here are a few ideas on How to Wear Leggings; keeping your comfort, fashion sense, and dignity 😉

Fall Casual Outfits: How To Wear Leggings

A long, drapy, poncho looks fab over leggings. Great for walks outside. Comfy to cuddle up in on the couch. Since I always wear black (a habit I’m trying to break myself of)…I recommend choosing ponchos in grey, beige or burgundy to rep the Fall colours.

I had legging envy at a recent event where I saw a lady layer black leggings under long tunic-style tops. It was sleek yet stylish. Match it with a bootie with a heel and you would like so polished (note to self: this is how I want to look). As an avid scarf-wear-er (I’m chilly that way) -> this is a perfect opportunity to match scarf-with-top-with-purse. Plain black leggings would work but I think those leather-look leggings would kick it up a notch – don’t you think?…

You know those shirt dresses everyone is wearing? A shirt dress over leggings looks awesome. Maybe a level lower than business casual…what should we call this?…weekend wear?! It’s relaxed. It’s laid back. It’s the weekend.

And as a proud cocoon sweater lover…a cocoon sweater under a tunic t-shirt over leggings would be my work-at-home-uniform every day of the week. This is my favourite outfit in the group because it would be the one I’m most likely to wear.

SHARE: Which of the above legging outfits do you like best and why?…

This could not have been more perfectly timed! I just bought a bunch of leggings and had no clue how to style myself!! I love the idea of the poncho! Super cute.

I’ve got a guilty admission: I love fall fashions. I always have. As a guy, this sounds weird because I’m supposed to be into sun dresses and other fashions that show off a lot of skin, but these looks have always been more attractive to me. I don’t know why.

I love the asymmetrical sweaters and the shoes.
This is a good time of year for a remake of the wardrobe.

I wasn’t a big fan of leggings until here recently. My daughter introduced them to me. I loved how comfortable they were. Now I want to wear them more.

I love to wear leggings this time of the year. I pair them with a nice big sweater. There are so many fun patterns to choose from to go with any outfit.

I love the jean dress. Leggings would look great under it. I will have to go get a few new fall pieces soon.

These are all great. I actually love leggings. I would never wear them without covering up with a long shirt or dress though. They can look great with the right outfit.

I am a leggings addict! I love wearing them with dresses or with tunics and cowboy boots! My college age daughters live in leggings and since I discovered LuLaRoe, I’ve started wearing leggings all the time too!

Great ideas that I hope more women actually pay attention too. I cannot stand seeing grown women wearing leggings as pants! NO! NO! NO! – tastefully cover up those bums!

I really like the tunic-style tops. You can go with a casual style or a more dressy style.

Loving the poncho look. I usually tend to lean towards comfort. This looks perfect. Great for cuddling on the couch like you say.

I love the long sweaters or ponchos over leggings, but some people don’t do that and just do not have the body type to wear leggings and they make the person look worse, they can be really nice and styling if you know how to wear them!

There’s nothing more comfortable than leggings and long comfy sweaters and they cover up a multitude of eating sins.
