Prep For The Week Ahead Tips

May 12, 2016

These Prep For The Week Ahead Tips save my bacon (quite literally) on a weekly basis. I try to promote healthy eating by having healthy food choices available for my kids (and frankly, if it isn’t grab n’ go ready…they aren’t going to grab it). Here are my own Prep For the Week Ahead Tips to make life easier…

Prep For The Week Ahead Tips

Prep For The Week Ahead Tips

Cut fruit as soon as you bring it home from the grocery store. Don’t let good food go bad. How often have I let a quart of strawberries sit overnight on the counter only to find them in a sad state by morning. No more! Now I cut those strawberries. I put fruit salad in GLAD containers so they are good to go for breakfast. I divvy up the washed grapes into smaller containers for school snacks.

The tip to keep cucumbers longer! Wash cucumbers, wrap each on individually in paper towel, then place them in a GLAD airtight storage bag and keep them in your vegetable crisper in the fridge.  They will last weeks and be in great condition for snacks and salads.

Double batch cook pasta and freeze leftovers for later on in the week. By Thursday, I am generally out of groceries (and out of inspiration). My whole family loves pasta. So Monday nights, I double batch cook pasta and then freeze the leftovers for either Friday lunch in a thermos or Thursday night dinner.

Bake two banana breads – enjoy one now and freeze the other for later. My banana bread recipe makes two loaves (and it takes just as much time to bake one loaf as it does two — so go for it). Having banana bread in the freezer is handy when you get drop-in guests and need something to defrost quick….also, handy as a homemade healthy snack later in the week.

GLAD Food Protection Products keep food fresh longer – find Freezerware, GLAD to go lunch containers, freezer zipper bags, and GLAD cling wrap in most major grocery stores.

would you like to come and prep for me? LOL I can’t seem to find the time to do that between work and sleep… like last night, just came home and sat for about 30 min then headed to bed, just soo exhausted, didn’t even try to make something to eat (happens most nights for me) didn’t even bathe…. was that achy

As a working mom getting meals ready for the week is a must for me. These are some great prep ideas, I would not know what was for dinner, if I did not prep everything in advance.

I have to use some of these tips. I love cucumbers and buy a few when I’m at the store, but there’s always one or two that goes bad before I ever eat them. Same for fruit. I’m really bad about buying tons of fresh fruit and then letting it go to waste.

Doing prep work ahead of time can save lots of work. You can even brown meat and freeze it for later.

I, thankfully, no longer have to prep meals for kids. Loved the tip to keep cucumbers fresh for longer. I’ll definitely be trying that out, some only seem to last a couple of days.

I don’t always prep for the week & those times I’m too lazy really do impact the week. Life is so much easier when I make a huge casserole & portion it out to freeze or double the recipe of baked goods. It’s a little more work in the beginning, but has such rewards & gives extra time in the week to do things like relax!

I need to do some prepping for the days I really don’t know what to cook anymore. I can always go in my freezer. It’s funny I freeze lasagna but never thing of freezing any other pasta dish!
