Jann Arden partners with Duracell to #stayconnected. Why Jann? Because her Mom has hearing loss and she knows what it is to see a loved one feel disconnected. It’s important for people of all ages to get their hearing tested and Duracell is helping by providing 10,000 free tests throughout the month of May up to June 19th.
Hearing loss never hit home with me until my mother-in-law had hearing loss. She would have to turn her head or cup her ear to our conversations. A young, healthy, Grandma — hearing loss did not define who she was (or is)…with the help of a hearing aid she is an active traveler and great listener.

I took the quick and easy, over the phone, hearing test. In total, it took 11 minutes (you have 11 minutes for your hearing health right?!). The actual testing portion was 4 minutes per ear. I had to type in three numbers which were spoken with a noisy background (i.e. female voice says 3-2-1 with static in background and I type in 3 2 1 on my phone keypad). My hearing test results…
right ear: within the expected range for normal hearing.
left ear: within the expected range for normal hearing.
If I had had lower than expected range – I certainly would have taken the next step to see my family doctor for further hearing testing. But this free and over the phone hearing test from Duracell was a great starting point to #stayconnected for me.
Duracell is putting a spotlight on the fact that there are three million people in Canada suffering from hearing loss. Hearing loss has far-reaching effects, touching not only those who can’t hear, but loved ones who feel their family member is slowing disconnecting from them.

This post is brought to you by Duracell. The opinions are my own.
wow, so neat, I recall when we did the hearing test for our first child…. that is mostly visual when they are very young 🙂
I am calling right now! I am pretty sure I have hearing loss. I have a lot of difficulty when there is background noise.
My mom went through all of this. It was so interesting to learn more about the types of hearing loss that there are.
This is definitely something I should talk to my mom about. She had inner-ear/balance issues in the past and it has effected her hearing as well (not sure if it’s related) but it’s never too safe to get it checked out.
I love Jann Arden, love to see her in this partnership because Duracell rocks. Taking care of our ears is so important. Could you imagine if we lost it?
I’m so glad that Duracell is doing this. That’s so amazing! I don’t know anyone with hearing loss, but I could only imagine how hard it is.
Wow, great information. I know a few people that could benefit from this. I’ll be sharing this post with lots of my friends/family.
this is so awesome. it remind is of the clip i saw when the baby needed a hearing aid and she was able to hear for the first tiem. very touching
What a great thing to do!! Knowledge is power and the sooner you find a problem usually better chances of fixing!
My son is dating a super nice gal who happens to have lost hearing from a childhood ilnnes in 1 ear. We’ve learned so much from her!
Duracell is the only brand of batteries i trust. I always stock up on them when they are on sale.
My friend just got her first set of hearing aides. I will have to share this with her.
This is a great initiative; my Dad has hearing loss. One of my nephews was born deaf. It’s so important to have your hearing checked.
Thanks for a really useful post. I’m going to tell my mom about this.
As we get older people often suffer from hearing loss. A lot of the older members of my family have hearing aids. My brother lost hearing in one of his ears, at about 27 yrs of age, after an ear operation. It was strange always having to remember which side of him to stand/sit so that he could hear what you were saying. Thankfully hearing aids have advanced enormously over the years and now they are hardly noticeable.
I know my hearing sucks, and I wish the young kids listening to their music cranked in their ears would just turn it down, it’s going to affect them later in life!! I’m going to do the hearing test thanks for sharing!!
