My husband is awesome at math. I am not. Both experiences have inspired us to encourage learning and conquering math a priority for our kids. Which brings us to Mathletics – a Canadian online math resource…this is a story of numbers.
Here’s a number: 10. That was the last grade in school in which I took math.
Another number: 10. The current grade of my daughter. The irony is not lost on me.
Then there’s 7. The grade in which you learn about “expanded notations” and I realize Mom’s homework help for daughter #2 is drawing to a close…
And all the while, we, as parents, are encouraging math to be fun and valuable. And yes, we insist they do math problems at home – beyond homework – so that we ensure they have the basics. However, you can only make multiplication tables written over and over only so fun. Here’s where Mathletics comes in…

This reminds me of Reading Rabbit, one of my favorite CD ROM programs when I was in elementary. It’s always great to have creative ways to engage kids on the topic of learning!
Hi Jenna, we totally agree with you. Unfortunately math has a reputation for being a rigid subject that has no room for creative thinking, which isn’t really the case. Mathletics has partnered with lead Canadian math educator Dr. Marian Small in aims to change that persisting belief. You can read more about her philosophy and how it integrates within Mathletics here: http://www.3plearning.com/canada/richlearning/
I have been super lucky that my boys really love math. And that they do well in it. But some kids really struggle and having a resource online can really help them make up the difference from what they aren’t grasping in the classroom!
This is a great resource. Math has always been the hardest subject for me, so I wish I’d had something like this when I was a kid.
I need to find something like this for my daughters. Math is such a hard subject, and something like this would be really helpful. It’s too bad we don’t live in Canada. =(

This will be incredibly helpful. It seems like math is a really easy subject to get behind in. It’s hard to catch up in math without external resources too.

I didn’t take math after 10th grade either. Thankfully all 4 of my kids have been pretty strong in math. Definitely helpful for all those years being a single mom. This sounds like a fantastic resource!
Oh my goodness, this would be so helpful. I am horrible with math and sometimes I just don’t get the wording on my Little Mans homework. LOL
Hi Shauna, I can definitely relate as I also struggled with word problems throughout school. Mathletics has a suite of curriculum-aligned activities that can further understanding and build up confidence in this regard. This a great math program. Math has changed so much since I was in school.
My child is a brainiac at math, I’m horrible. I’m dreading when things get harder and he needs my help! Love that there are resources like this

I love math! It was my favorite in school. Hopefully I can keep up with my kids when they start having harder questions.
This is great. I like that it can help point out what they’re good at and not.

I struggled with high school math and wish there were things like this when I was younger. It would have helped me so much!
Math was one of my favorite subjects when I was a kid! I’m so happy there’s resources to help kids when they’re struggling!
Mathletics sounds like an excellent resource to build math skills. I’m a writer so I’m one of the ones (like you) who’s a “10” when it comes to math. I ALSO took math in high school for the last time in 10th grade. But then I took a year’s worth more of College Level Algebra my freshman year in college to catch up.
Targeted, adaptive fluency practice in an interactive game format is what makes Mathletics such an awesome tool for building math skills and confidence. Now is a great time to try it as we are offering 20% off when using the promo code lovelearning2015 at checkout. Please contact us at customerservice@3plearning.ca if you’d like to learn more!
I love math but that was not always the case. This is a fabulous resource that I wish they had when I was in school.
