New Nintendo 3DS XL Review

July 15, 2015

Need some summer portable entertainment? This New Nintendo 3DS XL Review shows how this latest (and greatest) Nintendo handheld gaming system keeps kids busy while on the go…

New Nintendo 3DS XL review

I know! You are thinking “It’s summer – the kids should be outside!” and so they should. However, as much as you plan travel activities – there are times when some new portable gaming activities come in handy (think: car trips, plane rides, rainy days, waiting rooms and more).

New Nintendo 3DS XL Review

My kids have enjoyed Nintendo (from 1st generation to Nintendo 3DS) for a while. I wondered if a New Nintendo 3DS XL upgrade would really change their experience. Short answer: Yes, it does.

Face-tracking 3D

The face-tracking feature uses the system’s inner cameras to adjust images based on your viewing angle. This makes for a richer gaming experience; immersing you in the game. My daughter really noticed a difference in play.

New controls

The C stick brings new control possibilities (like intuitive camera control) to compatible games. I find that kids pick up controls with such ease. It’s like 2nd nature. And they love to be in control.New Nintendo 3DS XL

Built-in amiibo support

Tap an amiibo™ figure to the near-field communication (NFC) reader on the lower screen to enjoy amiibo features in compatible games.

Improved camera

Enjoy better results when you take photos in low-light situations. My kids LOVE taking pictures (and editing pictures) using the New Nintendo 3DS XL platform. It keeps them busy and creative both at the same time.

Easy data sharing

You can transfer your photos, music, and other files between a PC and your system’s microSDHC card via a wireless network. No need to remove the microSDHC card! I am happy to report there are also the Parental Controls to ensure you can set limits on where they go online and what they share.

More power

Improved CPU performance means faster loading times, so you spend more time playing. Many games will look and play better than ever—and several upcoming games will be built from the ground up to take advantage of this power boost. And it’s true, Super Mario has never looked better!

You can play all your Nintendo 3DS/2DS games on the New Nintendo 3DS XL system. You can also play nearly all Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi titles.

NOTE: AC adapter is not included with the New Nintendo 3DS XL system; you may use your Nintendo 3DS/2DS adapter, or purchase a new one separately.

Disclosure: I received compensation from Nintendo of Canada to review and post about its games and hardware. And the Nintendo 3DS XL face tracking really does work well! As always, the opinions in this post are my own.

Nintendo always has the coolest products! My daughter has the 3DS but not the XL version. She loves the editing features of the photos, drawing mustaches & putting funny hair on us. The XL has some nice new touches.
