#GOThisSummer with GO Transit

July 13, 2015 22 Comments

With so many things to do, places to see and friends to meet, it’s time to take adavantage of GO Transit’s seasonal services.  Really, you want to #GOThisSummer with GO Transit! From Toronto to Niagara to Barrie and stops in between, getting where you want to go has never been easier.

So where are you headed? A wine tour with girlfriends for the day in Niagara-on-the-Lake? A family day trip to enjoy the north in Barrie? A trip to downtown Toronto for a Blue Jays or Toronto FC game? All are so easily accessible on GO Transit. And best of all…you don’t have to do the driving so you can actually enjoy the scenery!…

Caroline on GO Transit Train

Yes, that’s me on a GO Transit mini-adventure. Day trip friendly!

The GO Transit experience…

  1. Plan your route. I went to the GO Transit website and used the Trip Planner powered by Triplinx. It was straightforward and easy. The fares are quite reasonable and really inspired me to leave the minivan at home!
  2. Go to the station. Like TTC or any bus service, you simply purchase your ticket (you can do it at a counter with a real person or use an automated machine outside the service desk) and wait for your train.
  3. Board the GO Train and enjoy the ride.

GO Transit CN Tower

My GO Transit getaway was actually a Mother/daughter adventure.  My daughter took this picture of the tracks and CN Tower, proving that not only can she spot one of Toronto’s most famous landmarks, but that she can also appreciate the experience of seeing the train tracks.

We talked about how trains used to be the only form of ground transportation available to long-distance travellers, as well as about how many more forms of transportation have come to market since those days.

But I really appreciated the experience of riding the GO Train with my daughter sitting across from me (rather than her being in the backseat), and the ease of getting from place to place comfortably. I wasn’t worried about missing an exit. Or the traffic. Or speaking over my shoulder to have a conversation with her. I could enjoy a mother/daughter afternoon of simply being together; giving her my full attention. All because I chose GO Transit.

We live for the weekends, especially during the summer. And planning them is just half the fun. Exploring the big city or biking through wine country – it’s good to have weekend options and we give them to you. Toronto to Nigara. Barrie to Toronto. Either way, we’ll take you there. Seasonal weekend train service runs until Sept 7. Discover a different side of GO this summer at gotransit.com/getaway

I use it all the time from my home in SW Ontario. I just drive to the Aldershot station and I’m downtown in no time. And the best thing? No traffic stress!

Go Transit looks like the perfect solution for regular business trips or casual day getaways. I love using ground transport whenever I can, and it’s even better when I don’t have to drive!

I have never had the pleasure of riding on public transit. Since I’m scared of planes I’d likely use something like this!

That would be so fun! I have never gone on a train ride (other than a Thomas the Train thing, but that doesn’t really count). It would be way more relaxing since you don’t worry about traffic, directions/gps, etc.

The Go train is the only way i travel into the city. I drive to Oshawa and take the train the rest of the way. That way i dont have to worry about driving in the city and paying for parking.
