Imaginary Friends

June 3, 2015 24 Comments

As a Mom and author – I am a big fan of reading. However, I’m finding with the digital age my kids look for engagement beyond the printed page. Especially with my son – who wants engagement – and Mommy – both together at reading time. Imaginary Friends is for families – like mine – who like to use reading time as family time…

Imaginary Friends Kids Reading

Imaginary Friendsimaginary Friends

Imaginary Friends is a “Family Adventure” that ships a story to your house with printed chapters and an activity kit.  Parents log into the website and bring the story to life by triggering interactive activities designed to coincide with the story. There are games and scavenger hunts and little moments to connect with your children once they start to become independent readers.

A LOOK AT IMAGINARY FRIENDS BOOKS…

The printed chapter books of Imaginary Friends are kid-sized (read: perfect to pop in your backpack). They marry a chapter book adventure with cartoons which draw in a kid’s imagination.

The book takes you to a game. The game takes you to the next chapter. It’s levels upon levels of boredom busters!

I like that Imaginary Friends is an inside and outside activity. The screen time portion of Imaginary Friends is complimentary to reading the books (it’s not just “I’m bored – let me go on the tablet” time). And the “games” portion is not just screen. Kids have to go outside (yes, outside) and do scavenger hunts (which, in my opinion, is a great life skill development tool of learning how to read a map and make decisions). It isn’t just reading time but can be turned into family time with one connected activity which spans through siblings and age levels (and yes, parents are included too).

I’m trying to be better this summer at making my kids read. They don’t really like it, and I don’t know why. I love to read when I have free time.
