Vlogging Tip The Paper Clip Tip

May 22, 2015 3 Comments

I don’t know if it’s crazy or good or crazy-good that I’m sharing vlogging tips as I discover vlogging tips…but this little gem of advice is a keeper….Vlogging Tip The Paper Clip Tip. It’s cheap, easy, portable…and just helps make vlogging easier.

Aside: the video I mention in the vlog is being edited by the director now – I’ll let you know when it comes out 😉

Vlogging Tip The Paper Clip Tip

I know – you are thinking does holding a paper clip while you vlog really help? It does for me. I fiddle with the paper clip off camera; giving my mind something else to focus on. Thus, I’m not stammering (or not as much as when I’m not holding a paper clip while I shoot). Basically, I’m thinking about the paper clip so I’m not over-thinking what I want to say.

Vlogging Tip The Paper Clip Tip

You will notice a diffence between The Paper Clip Tip vlog and my Parent Club Trailer vlog – background, lighting, what I use to shoot (in the Parent Club Trailer I used my Nikon D33oo whereas The Paper Clip Tip I used my Microsoft Surface Pro 3). It’s an apples and oranges comparison I think because the Nikon takes great images whereas the Surface record-to-post ease is great (meaning; both do different things and they both do different things better).

Vlogging discoveries…

Background is important. Not too busy. Not too boring.

Sound is important. You notice my videos are all a bit echo-y (because I don’t have any carpets!).

Background sound is even more important. Kids have to be out. Windows closed. Phone not ringing (and yes, my phone did ring during one of the takes).

Lighting is important. Don’t sit directly behind a window because it’ll wash out your image.

Share: Do you have any tips to help you focus when you are on camera – like my paper clip tip?…
