Spring Clean Your Eating Habits

April 7, 2015 31 Comments

Spring makes me feel like change. Change wardrobe. Change habits (I really need to get outside more). And change the way we eat – it’s time to Spring Clean Your Eating Habits!

Spring Clean Your Eating Habits

Spring Clean Your Eating Habits

Eat a Balanced Breakfast

Choose a breakfast that contains a good source of protein and fibre, but not high in calories like an omelette. Try swapping out a regular egg for egg whites in your omelette and pair with whole grain toast, or try a hearty bowl of oatmeal made with protein-packed low fat milk to help you feel full longer.

Snack Smart

Try fresh fruit, cut veggies with hummus, whole wheat crackers with light cheese, low fat yogurt, whole grain granola bars, or a handful of nuts.

Go Light at Lunch

Don’t lose your momentum at lunch. Stick to a lunch that is packed with lean meats, fruits, veggies and high fibre grains. Try a SUBWAY® sandwich with lean turkey, chicken or roast beef on 9-grain wheat bread.

Downsize Dinner Portions

As a general guideline, keep your meat serving to about a quarter of your plate, your starch (i.e. potatoes, rice or pasta) to a quarter and fill the rest of your plate with veggies.

Be a role model for healthier eating

Making healthier eating choices and leading by example is a great way to influence positive changes in people’s lives, especially children. When you cannot eat together at home, choose a better on-the-go option like SUBWAY®

Great tips! I like that it’s a spring cleaning of eating than actual cleaning. Definitely needed this.

I love the go light at lunch! That’s what I have been doing and I’m finding a big difference. I also don’t snack at night any more! No food after 6 for me!

If I could have sandwiches for breakfast, I’d be set. I can’t do big breakfast foods (I just dislike breakfast foods in general) so I’m usually the opposite 🙁

For his weight loss goals, my boyfriend has changed his eating lifestyle and these tips are perfect as adds ons. Being a good role model is important for him as well since he has brothers who don’t have good eating habits.

I’m weird. Sometimes I eat like a bird and others like I have a stomach the size of a whale. I agree that portion control is in order.

Great tips for revamping your eating habits. I think it’s good to try to do that when it seems things are out of control. I actually started doing this back in February, so by the time I get to regularly going to the gym, I won’t be wiped out of out of energy because of the change.

I do love Subway but it is ages since I went there. I tend to just cook for myself and eat lean meats, fruit, yoghurt, cheese and biscuits. I do love bacon but only eat that once in a blue moon and everything in moderation eh?
