Hiring A House Cleaner

April 16, 2015 33 Comments

I clean. Every. Single. Day. Three kids makes for daily crumbs. And I always thought “I don’t need a house cleaner” (because I clean every single day – how dirty can our home get beyond that?!). However, recently I tried Hiring A House Cleaner and I think I’m hooked…

Hiring a House Cleaner

5 Things To Consider When Hiring A House Cleaner

I recently booked a house cleaner from Helpling to come to my home (though I do a daily clean…the Helpling cleaner did a deep clean…great results!). From that experience, I figured out a few things to consider when hiring a house cleaner…

  1. Back-ground check and experience. Don’t be afraid to require background checks and experience.
  2. Reliable. Book a day and time which fits your schedule and expect the house cleaner to confirm date and time back to you. If they call 5 minutes before arrival – bonus points.
  3. Budget. Consider number of rooms, size of rooms, and how much approximate time is needed to clean these rooms – these all fit into the hourly rate of a house cleaner. I appreciated that Helpling sets a rate of $25 (taxes included) per hour – it takes the guess work out of budget. *TIP: amazing discount code below
  4. Products. I prefer my home to be cleaned with the products I have on hand (because why not use products you already have? Plus, I like to control which products are used on surfaces my children touch).
  5. Easy factor. I am all about making life easier…so if I can book a house cleaner on line at any time of the day or night I want – and then have all communications sent via email (because I hate it when the phone rings and wakes up my kids) – it makes my life easier.

Helpling discount code:  use  “parentclub” which will give you $25 off your first booking (that’s 1 hour FREE!)

About Helpling.com

Helpling.com is an online platform. We connect our website users with independent cleaning providers. You can make a booking for a one-time clean or schedule regular cleanings in three easy steps:1. Enter your location 2. Make an appointment 3. Pay securely online. All for $25/hr (tax included).

Shameless recommendation: I was really pleased with Helpling. Booking was easy. Confirmation by email. House cleaner was friendly and polite. My own cleaning products were used to clean my home. Plus, I received a “rate your cleaner” email that evening which made me feel that Helpling was really on top of customer experience.

It is a dream of mine to be able to hire a housekeeper. I work from home and I literally cannot follow my kids around all day and prevent their messes.

I love having my house cleaned, but my kids and the dog can undo everything in a minute flat!

A housekeeper is really awesome, but you have to be super sure it is someone you can trust completely!

I was just telling my daughter yesterday that I needed to hire a house cleaner. It’s either a housekeeper or a VA! 🙂 Thanks for the tips.

I personally couldn’t have someone come in and clean my house, but I did live with a relative who did. The woman who came was from her church, and I enjoyed seeing her when she came. We knocked down a hornet’s nest together.

May I also suggest that your housecleaner be bonded and carry their own Liability insurance… I would not have anyone inside my house who could not pay for accidental damage to my property or reimburse me for theft.

It would be a dream come true for both my mother and I to have a house cleaner once a week. Honestly though my anxiety can get so bad I don’t know if I’d trust someone to come over like that. Maybe someday though.

I am paying on so many medical bills that it would be hard for me to hire a maid anytime soon. However, I’d definitely benefit from it. I’m having to clean every single day, too. It gets so tiresome at times.
