The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had

January 30, 2015

My mom had a closet in the basement which (according to me) was filled with the most fabulous fashion treasures. In that closet, hung the clothes she rarely wore…floor length dresses, matching dress suits, her wedding dress, and The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had. I mean…I coveted that jacket.

Coco-Chanel-in-white-jacket

It was a Chanel-like jacket (like the one Coco is wearing in that picture). I remember The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had with nostalgia (and envy). The story of the jacket is that my mom bought it in Italy after series of unfortunate events having to do with lost luggage. Could it have been actual Chanel? I would like to think so (because wouldn’t that be romantic?!)

I remember going down to the basement and looking at The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had – never daring to actually take it off the hanger and try it on. My memory tells it me it was a black and white houndstooth. It was clean and classic. Simple piping on the edges and pocket with a rounded collar. It was elegant. The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had filled me with desire. That maybe, one day, I might wear it.

And I did. Once.

For some “grown up event”, I had nothing to wear (as teens who only ever wear jeans do) and my Mom offered for me to wear The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had. And it fit perfectly. If ever there was a Cinderella moment…that was it.

The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had is now gone…donated in a closet clean out…and I regret never having asked my Mom to give me my fashion #FirstCrush.

I searched the UsedEverywhere.com for The Vintage Jacket I Wish I Had. No postings yet – but I know I will find it one day (and in the meantime I did find this clutch and I am sure Coco would approve).  It’s amazing the cool vintage items which are posted everyday. Maybe one day…my jacket…

Share!…Do you have a #FirstCrush on something connected to your past?

I enjoyed reading this post! It brought back memories of me when I was really little, less than ten, loving to try on my mom’s shoes. She had an armoir and all her fantastic shoes where in the bottom. I loved her little ankle black lace up boots. Wish I had them now! I’m going to ask her about them tonight. Maybe she has them stashed somewhere still (wishful thinking) Thanks for the nice post!

That is a legendary jacket. I am kind of an 80s baby, so I would say anything Madonna wore back in the day. lol

I remember my grandma had a fur stole that I thought was completely incredible. I wouldn’t like it now because it had a head on it, but back then I loved it.
