Over the holidays, baking is a big part of my life. It’s a great kid activity and it also comes in handy when you are entertaining (for those invited…and also the unexpected guests). I thought it might be helpful to share some of my favourite (and easy!) holiday baking recipes…
Holiday Baking Recipes
PARENT CLUB TIP: no time to make a from-scratch sugar cookie? (yeah…neither do I) – use a cookie mix instead! It’s still “home made” right?! These two cookie recipes use the same sugar cookie mix.
- 1 package of sugar cookie mix
- white icing
- blue gel icing (or icing pen)
- mini marshmellow
- Bake sugar cookie mix according to package instructions
- When cooled ice with white icing
- Stick mini marshmellow to icing (before it dries and sets)
- Then, when icing is set…draw on eyes, nose, open mouth on mini marshmellow using blue icing
- Then, draw stick hands on white icing (on the cookie)
- Enjoy!
Follow the baking instructions above (deleting the icing directions). When you take the sugar cookies out of the oven…while still warm…place a chocolate wafer in the centre.
Yes, three racks in an oven sure do make baking Holiday Baking Recipes better! Pictured above is my Frigidaire Full Induction Freestanding Range. It makes my life easier.
You should try my Scotch Scone recipe it’s great for when you have friends drop by for hot chocolate (perhaps après-ski or après-sledding?)
And should you be looking for a stellar impress-your-mother recipe…then my Easy Chocolate Triffle recipe is a must (and don’t let the look fool you – it’s impressive as it is easy!).

Thanks for sharing these recipes. The trifle may come in handy this holiday season so I am going to make sure I have everything on hand to make it! Merry Christmas!
My pleasure in sharing Judy! I recommend them all. 🙂
I made snowman cookies this year, they were tasty. That chocolate trifle looks wonderful.
My son would LOVE that melting snowman cookie!!!
Some great ideas here. Thanks for sharing!
Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar. Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, sprinkle rolling pin with powdered sugar, and roll out dough to 1/4-inch thick. Move the dough around and check underneath frequently to make sure it is not sticking. If dough has warmed during rolling, place cold cookie sheet on top for 10 minutes to chill. Cut into desired shape, place at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack. Serve as is or ice as desired. Store in airtight container for up to 1 week.
ha that’s cute
I love the melted snowman cookie! I made it for my son and he loved it!
