Monday morning: I make school lunch, I check e-mail, and I re-stock our diaper bag. The contents of a diaper bag are personal yet practical. This is the post where I share all that…and I ask…What’s in your diaper bag?
- Black Skip Hop diaper bag (mine is a 2nd-hand-older-version – and I envy the drink pocket on the model pictured above).
- Toddler boys pjs – oldnavy.ca (this is the “in case of emergency” change of clothes. Pjs are lighter to pack and always comfy!).
- My Nokia Lumia 920 (read my review of this windows phone – it makes my life easier!)
- CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolour (I use #528)
- Boys’ socks – joe fresh (I use heavy socks as mittens in the winter – they stay on and keep lil’ fingers warm)
- Hand sanitizer and holder – bath & body works (used every time I put the grocery cart away – germs be gone!)
- Tim Horton’s gift card (in case I don’t have cash – we can still have lunch on the go!)
- Aveeno lotion travel size (my dry hands love this)
- Wet bag (this one is itzy ritzy – mine is not – but both keep wet clothes compartmentalized)
- Kirkland wipes (for hands, cheeks, and other sundry body parts)
- Infinity scarf – ardene (I hate having a chilly neck – plus it doubles as a kid’s scarf)
It might be of interest to have a look at my suggestions for Family Travel Packing List as the baby items on there kind of marry with what’s in my diaper bag. I also created a FREE printable of that list.

I have a diaper bag here for when my grandkids visit. Its always stocked with diapers, wipes, powder, lip balm, extra socks, undies (for those who wear them) and extra outfit or two and I always have a washcloth that I’ve soaked in hot water and wrung out in a plastic baggie to wipe faces and hands. My mom used to do that when we were kids and its a big comfort to me, so hopefully I’ll pass that down to my grandkids!

Oh Anne – I bet your grand kids love visiting such a prepared Grandma! I know that I appreciate going to houses that are equipped for little ones.

I don’t have to carry a diaper bag around with me these days but I would suggest that one should always have a complete change of clothing in there! My daughter was at the mall with her family when her little girl filled her diaper, they rushed off to the changing room but my daughter discovered that it literally was spread all over – nasty & smelly. Hubby was sent off to buy a complete set of new clothes and everything her daughter had been wearing landed in the garbage.

I sometimes think I should take out the change of clothes…and that always turns out to be the day we need a change of clothes :-S

Our first children were twins. Our diaper bag had a bag of wipes, no less than 6 diapers, and 2 or 3 pacifiers (if you only take one, it’ll fall in the sewer grate and your child will scream at earth-shattering levels for half an hour until you finally find a store in which to buy a new one–which needs to be boiled–but you have no way to do that, so you just stick it in your own mouth for a second, and try to convince yourself that today, spit is enough to sterilize it).
Of course we also had extra clothing for when they inevitably dirty the ones they’re wearing…and a plastic bag for the stuff that smells.
My diaper bag also always had a handful of soft toys, small books, and something that made music (to distract them during the diaper changes), and snacks.
In the summer, we had hats and sunglasses, and in the winter, small blankets so they wouldn’t get cold legs from the van to whatever building we were going into.
When you’ve got two babies, you double the chance you’ve under-prepared and may find yourself covered in baby poop, holding an old t-shirt over one baby’s bottom while your husband runs to buy more diapers (how can people so small poop SO much?!) with the second, screaming baby on his hip. So you pack a lot of stuff. LOL
