Holidays are coming. Which, generally means, house guests will be coming too. Being one who has been the house guest as well as the house-guest-hostess…I have some Hosting House Guest Tips which might make life a little easier…
House Guest Hosting Tips
Make the house guest space inviting – whether it be in your basement, home office, living room, or child’s room. Clear the clutter and make space for your guests to lay out their suitcases and bags.
Provide them with the comforts they so deserve. Both for adults and for kids.
For adults: I’ve always appreciated a clock when I’ve been a guest (good to know how much longer you can sleep before that 3am feeding). A comfortable bed (and please put out extra blankets in case your visitors feel cold after my long trip). Ask them if they take cream or milk in their coffee or tea (they will so appreciate it). And an easy snack either before bed or ready for when they wake up (hey, your guests might like my banana bread recipe!).
For kids: their own bed if possible (because bunking with parents gives no one rest). A flash light (new surroundings can be scary). Milk for the morning (actually, it is preferable to ask parents what kind of milk/drinks kids like and have it in the house before they arrive). Clean towels and soap for a before-bed-bath (sometimes its good to keep home routines going – even when visiting someone else’s house). A plushie to sleep with (in case they forgot theirs).
Love the space saving function of those handy AreoBeds pictured above? They are available at Target and Canadian Tire. These convenient mattresses are easily inflated and quickly deflated within minutes (and super compact for storage)!
Whether you have a separate guest room or transforming a small space into guest lodgings for the holidays there are lots of ways to make your guests feel at home.

Disclosure: an Areobed was supplied for review for this post. It stores like a dream. As always, the opinions on this post are my own.
I like to put out a jug or glass of water on their bedside table before retiring – so they don’t have to get up and head to the kitchen for one.
Cheers.
That is so thoughtful!
Lots of good tips, thank you. I like to have a little basket for guests filled with things like soap, hand cream, lotion, toothbrush, flannel, disposable razor, shower cap etc. The little things that people often forget to pack. Little trial packets are ideal.
That is smart! I always love hand cream but often forget to pack it!
the normal things like fresh towels, their own soaps etc. I also like to have coffee and tea available to them all of the time so we have a keurig for such occassions.
The flashlight idea is great! I will definitely keep that in mind
These are great! I am going to have to file the tips away for the holidays!
