October 31st brings with it lots of candy and chocolates. Sugar is sweet but moderation (in all things) is a good thing. How do you limit the candy intake without looking like an ogre? Here are a few tips for managing Halloween candy…
All that chocolate and candy goodness can be very tempting (especially for me…after the kids go to bed…nom nom nom). Which is why managing (you could call it “controlling” if you are a control-type *raises hand*) Halloween candy is all the more important. Keep the most favourite treats and then discuss with your kids what you can do with the rest.
Asking kids to divide candy helps them learn about priorities and thinking of others. Freezing the candy might make for a great family treat later in November. Offering the kids to trade in (and really…it’s trading up because they get something really special) teaches them about negotiation.
I never wanted to prolong the sugar exposure. I took a different approach, eat it as much as you want and fast, so it is gone and we don’t have to constantly deal with it!
That’s an interesting approach and certainly ends the Halloween treat conversation in a timely matter. Thanks for sharing!
Never thought of freezing the candy. Trading is fun
When my kids were little we also froze some of their chocolate, but we also let them eat it as fast as possible so it was gone and forgotten!
