I admit it: I love the British royal family (truly, I have a ton of royal bio books from Henry the 8th to Prince William). Why? Because its history. And they are a family. I history and families are two of my favourite things. So as I, and the world, wait for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal baby…I share some news of a Royally Overjoyed Baby Shower.
That’s me – 7 months pregnant with my son. Though he was my third child (and tradition says baby showers are only for first-time Moms) my friends and family still celebrated his birth by showering me with gifts and food. (Related: Five Things To Give To New Parents – psst…I just mentioned #1). I so appreciated celebrating our new birth and I so appreciated the new baby items (you know my oldest and youngest are 10 years apart and boy – does baby gear ever change in 10 years!).
I must admit – I was a bit of a reluctant princess when it came to being the centre of a baby shower where you are treated like a royal. Don’t get me wrong – I was overjoyed to be pregnant – but was very uncomfortable with the attention my pregnant belly received. People rubbing my tummy, asking when the baby was due, out-loud-discussions of “will it be a boy or girl”. I must say – I side with the royal fans who wish Kate her pregnant-privacy…there is something to be said about having a private pregnancy.
However, I’m really looking forward the Royally Overjoyed Baby Shower event here in Toronto (July 23) where my fellow #FisherPriceMoms and special guests will get hands-on with some Fisher-Price Gear Favourites.
Some of my personal favourite things to gift at a baby shower are:
- A few favourite children’s books (and then you can add to their library every year on their birthday)
- A diaper cake made out of Fisher-Price diapers
- A contribution to a big-ticket group present like a stroller or crib
- Diaper bag essentials

I won tickets to this event so I would LOVE to see you there! I’m due on July 24th so I’ve had a little talk with my baby-to-be to please wait to be born until after the shower, LOL! I’m really looking forward to it!
Oh tell that baby to hang in there – I’d love to meet you!
I’ve read about this event – it sounds like a wonderful event for expecting moms! 🙂
I am such a fan of the diaper cake for showers – I am anxiously awaiting my next shower to try my creative hand at one! hah
It’s going to be my next baby shower gift too Soozle – looks like fun to make.
My eldest and youngest are 7 yrs apart and yes, baby stuff surely does change alot in that time span! I like giving practical things like diapers, restaurant gift cards, sleepers etc. when I go to a baby shower!
Restaurant gift cards?! That’s genius.
With twin both times, I really appreciated diapers, wipes, diaper genie…
Diapers are always a practical gift – I buy size 2s as gifts (because you never know how long newborns will be in newborn or size 1 diapers).
I was 32 weeks pregnant with my twins and measuring 41 weeks. Despite my huge belly, swollen everything and a feeling of complete exhaustion – I was OVERjoyed. It was my baby shower. A time when family and friends gathered to celebrate the two tiny additions-to-be in our family.
My favorite gift was a wipes warmer with my first child, was truly a lifesaver for him since he was a preemie & extreamly sensitive to the cold wipes, my fav gift with my dgtr was any neccesities we got esp lotion/baby wash & shampoos something I didnt have to ‘pass down’ from my first child & a HUGE help with things I had to buy for her.
I had a shower for my first but when I asked if you get a shower for each child I got backlash from ‘friends’ I was told if you were to have a child with one person, then the next child is with someone else you get a babyshower but you don’t if you stay with same person and have 2nd child? Ummm… pretty sure that’s not the way it should work. I would have liked to have a shower for my second. Hoping if we have a 3rd we will have a baby shower… but this time I’m not going to expect it or even ask … you never know may get surprised.
Great pic and I heard it was a terrific baby shower that day in July..
Fun event. I love giving gifts made out of diapers. I just went to a dual shower yesterday and I made 2 diaper babies, 1 boy, 1 girl for the new Moms.
