My motherhood days (and evenings) are a cycle of messes/clean up (his messes/my cleaning up). Clean baby, happy baby – happy baby, content Mom (circle of life n’est ce pas?!). Of my three kids, this little boy is the busiest and most messy. I can pretty much claim “expert” title status for keeping a kid clean – I’ve earned it!
By the numbers… in a day…
I vacuum three times (under the high chair). I tidy toys twice (once after breakfast and then after lunch; by 4 o’clock I give up). I change six diapers (sometimes more per day). I do two loads of laundry. I clean the kitchen table five times (after breakfast, snack, afternoon snack, art activity, dinner). I clean strollers and high chairs at least once a day. I supervise the bath/shower of three children. And I wipe/wash hands more often than I talk to grown-ups.
Expert, right?! Well, here are my expert tips on keeping baby mess-free…
- KLADD PRICKAR Bib Ikea Canada
- Fisher-Price foaming soap
- Snugabye Hooded Towel
- Stacking Cups Babies R Us
- Huggies Triple Clean Wipes
Bibs aren’t just for dinnertime. I put a bib on my son for painting, bubbles, water play… bibs protect clothing and let’s just say I am a big supporter of cutting down on laundry!
Soap isn’t just for bath time. I keep a bottle of kid soap in every bathroom to encourage hand washing (which will – I hope – lead to potty training for this little guy!)
A hooded towel is a must to keep the “wet mess” in check. Easy to put on, fun to wear, and makes for stumble-free walking when the child is out of the tub, and it absorbs the wet.
Stacking cups might sound strange, but they certainly help keep a baby (and your bathroom clean!). I was tired of cleaning up water which splashed out of the bath (and onto my bathroom floor). Stacking cups keeps kiddo entertained (and encourages the water to stay in the tub!).
Wipes aren’t just for diaper changes (but they do make those changes easier). I also have wipes in my bag for après-playground clean-ups or that sticky face after an ice cream cone treat; wipes grab the mess in the best way.
Messes are a part of childhood (and they aren’t always bad – remember the fun of finger painting?!). Some of the best activities come out of making messes but all good activities (and messes) must come to an end in order to move on with your busy day. Clean Mom, sane Mom – Clean Baby, Happy Baby.

I love those bibs! We had them for my girls and now for my sons!. They are great!
Wipes are an essential in my opinion!! I carry them around now that I’m a grandmother for messy faces and fingers as well as diaper changes!
Great list!
I love those bibs!!! Talk about handy for spaghetti nights!!! Ikea road trip now being planned!
I use wipes almost all the time! They are very handy!
I took a bunch while on vacation – great for quick hand clean ups on the beach, airplane, restaurants
Yes, I definitely get the feeling of being a maid sometimes with all of the cleaing up I need to do – and I only have 1 child!
I use wipes all the time, and I am way past the diaper stage! Can you imagine trying to do all that without the modern conveniences?
Yup you are a busy Mom. Great ideas on how you do the clean up. It does get easier, but that sad part it only happens when they leave the nest!
all good ideas! We still use wipes for everything!
