Not rocket science – I know – but learning how to boil eggs can come in pretty handy thru parenthood. THINK: school lunch, picnics, Easter egg decorating. Possibly my most unoriginal (but good-to-know) DIY yet…how to boil eggs…
The secret on how to boil eggs: place eggs first then bring water to a boil.
Fill pot with cold water. Gently (and I mean gently) slide eggs into water. Bring pot to a boil. When bubbles start popping up (showing water is boiled) turn off heat and cover pot. (At this point walk away…check emails…go on twitter). Leave eggs covered for 10 minutes.
Done.
Eggs will be perfectly boiled.

You’re totally right about this being an good-to-know skill/tip. I always have boiled eggs in the fridge as a quick snack. I boil mine using the same guidelines as you, only I add a pinch of salt to the water if I remember — I heard it prevents the eggs from cracking, and it seems to work!
Oh I did have one crack…maybe I should have added salt. Mental note for next time – thanks Victoria!
I’ve never heard of turning the water off and leaving the eggs in a covered saucepan… huh shows you what I know lol Thanks
My aunt handed down this secret to boiling eggs…always worked for her.
I have been doing my eggs like this forever, my gandmother cooked them the same way.
It appears to be one of those cooking tips which gets handed down through the generations.
I do my eggs this way! Good to know someone else does it the way I do. 🙂
I haven’t tried that before – place eggs first then bring water to a boil! I will try it next time.
I have never boiled eggs for ten minutes. I need more patience. Thanks
That’s a good guide to follow
I follow the same recommendations that you do, so I am happy! I am doing something right – I hope ;)!
Thank you for sharing, I will have to try this. I have tended to over boil. A good guide indeed.
