I love baking with my kids. We measure, pour, crack and stir together in such bliss. From everyday baking to holiday baking – this is a regular family time activity for us. My almost-tweens have been baking with me forever (really – since they were lil ones!) but now I’m introducing the world of baking-with-Mom to my toddler. Today, he and I made a Zebra Cake…
We were flipping through a Robin Hood recipe booklet (did you know this is the Robin Hood booklet’s 30th anniversary?!) and his little fingers stopped the flipping pages at the Zebra Cake recipe as if to tell me: “Ta-daaa THAT’S what we’re making!”
Preheat oven 350F
- 1/2 c butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp vanilla
- 2 cups Robin Hood All Purpose Flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/3 cup milk
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
Visit Robin Hood for the full Zebra Cake recipe or download the recipe booklet at robinhood.ca (also some great baking tips there for you to read and use when baking with your little ones).
Ours didn’t turn out quite like the picture in the booklet – but that’s because I had one hand safe-guarding toddler on a chair while the other was dropping in the batter. I believe in priorities…family time, safety, yummy goodness, THEN looks.
His first baking day-with-Mommy is a beauty in itself n’est pas?!
Disclosure: Robin Hood helped to make this cake possible. The memories were supplied by me 🙂 The opinions of this post are my own.
Still a great looking cake 🙂 Very cool look to it! Thanks for sharing
It was delish too!
Cool idea for a cake! I think my son would LOVE it! He loves animals and if I mention the cake is going to resemble a Zebra, I think he would just think it was great!
I love how this looks! And it sounds pretty good too!
What a fun idea!
I like the snowman poop idea even though usually I use marshmallows as teeth in decorateive apple smile treats! LOL
I think the cake looks perfect! Thanks for sharing this recipe, I’m going to try it with my toddler as well 🙂
