Farm to table – farm to fork – – both catch phrases sum up my preference for eating/cooking/serving…local, fresh, food. Which is why I appreciated seeing that Ontario Pork Farmers Care because food is not just about product…
Ontario Pork Farmers Care
From bacon for breakfast to ham in my kids’ lunch to roast pork tenderloin for dinner (yum!) – pork is a weekly menu item in one way or another for my family.
I like to think I’m an educated person…and I try to self-knowledge when I have the opportunity. And I think the best place to learn something is from the best. Who better to teach me about Ontario pork than Ontario pork farmers?…
This series of Ontario Pork videos demonstrate the level of care and commitment Ontario pork farmers take in raising their animals. The purpose of these videos is to dispel some of the myths about farming practices, by showing real farmers answering common questions about why they do what they do.
Ontario’s pork farmers follow strict on-farm food safety protocols which are combined with an animal care assessment for producers to monitor, manage and document animal husbandry practices.
Aside: need kid-friendly recipes? This Basic Pork Ribs recipe looks delish (don’t you just love fall-off-the-bone ribs?!) and this Pulled Pork Made Easy – Slow Cooker recipe sounds like the answer to a busy-Mom’s crazy-dinner-night challenges (seriously people – embrace the slow cooker – it makes dinner so much easier!).
More videos can be found on the Ontario Pork website (aside: did you know there are 1,524 family farms in Ontario producing fresh, local, pork).
As a city girl, I know nearly nothing about farming. Thus, I appreciate being enlightened about where my food comes from…and learn about the people who dedicate their lives and business to bringing food from their farm to my table.
