This past weekend my family drove (through 3 states!) to Chicago for a wedding. 7 people in a minivan for 10 hours with one 30 minute rest stop. Did I mention one of those people was a three year old?! Let’s just say the trip had a balance of entertainment and exhaustion. Here are my Chicago #NikonMOMents…
CAMERA TIP: carry your Nikon in a cloth bag inside your diaper bag. Yes, carrying a camera bag is probably optimal but it adds to your load. Diaper bags are usually padded (if not – pad the diapers around the sides of the bag). One less bag to carry!
Frankenstein monster has never looked so nice. I love the definition in this picture. Our one day of site seeing happened to be a fairly chilly Chicago day (it wasn’t just the windy city but the windy chilly city). My son loved this hat/glove combo so much – I had to freeze the moment for a digital souvenir.
Inspired by the view from our hotel window, I experimented with some of the settings and effects on my Nikon D3300…
This was auto setting. Easy point and shoot stuff.
Selective color (which was set to blue – and of course there was no blue view so it shot black and white – but I like the outcome).
Color pop effect. Same view – same time – but a totally different photo effect.
We made our way to the Field Museum (plan a whole day for visiting – we only spent a few hours there and only saw half!).
If ever we go back to Chicago…we’ll go back to see the rest. But we really had to cram all we could into our one tourist day…
Trump tower…impressive vertical.
NBC building (my daughter kept asking if Jimmy Fallen was in there).
Then on to a boat tour on the Chicago river. Brr it was cold! But so impressive.
We went from tourism to rehearsal dinner to wedding the next day – it was a whirlwind.
When you are at a family event – like a wedding – you want crisp, clean shots like that picture of the appetizer buffet. My camera is filled with amazing shots of family – dressed in their best – at this family wedding. Some of the best shots I have ever taken.
Like this aperture photo of our table setting. Print worthy in my opinion.
I must admit taking my Nikon on this family trip was a smart choice. Yes, my smartphone was in my bag (as it always is) but the Nikon really took better pictures. And better pictures are what make it into the family album n’est pas?…
Disclosure: I am part of the Mom Central Canada Nikon MOMents team and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
I love the colour pop effect. I have to try that one out. I can’t imagine not traveling without my Nikon. Looks like you had a blast.
It was so much fun. And carrying the Nikon in my diaper bag was really easy. It will be packed for all our family travels!
Lovely pics. Very nice. Stunning. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! The Nikon D3300 takes amazing pictures!
I have never tried the color pop effect setting… need to do that soon! Loved your pics, especially because Chicago is on my list of places I want to visit. 🙂
The colour pop effect is soooooo cool! I can’t wait to try this out on my Nikon, too. You really captured Chicago…love that city.
The colour pop effect is one of my favourites.
I just bought a Nikon camera and the colour pop is good to know!! I still have so much to learn but glad I stumbled on this!
Love your pictures. Thanks for sharing.
