This post is brought to you by AVEENO® Baby and The Co.
These Baby’s First Cottage Visit Tips are tried and true (trust me – I’ve done the baby’s first visit to the cottage with each of my three kids). From sun protection to water safety to portable baby gear this selection of Baby’s First Cottage Visit Tips will make your family vacation a little easier…
Baby’s First Cottage Visit Tips
Water safety is always important at the cottage. You want to enjoy outdoor cottage life with confidence that everyone is going to be safe around the water. So if you need to feed or change the baby – be sure another adult is on “lifeguard duty” supervising older siblings – or if you are the only “lifeguard” around – have older siblings exit the water (a Popsicle on land can be a good incentive) while you see to immediate baby needs.
Also, when it comes to boating…everyone on board (yes, including baby) must perfectly fit and wear a personal flotation device (PFD) certified by Canada Coast Guard or Transport Canada. Think of your baby’s PFD like their car seat – it is for protection so it has to fit correctly.
You will also want to keep sunhats and sunscreen nearby to protect against sun exposure.
The effects of the sun can be harsh, especially for younger kids and babies (well, anyone with sensitive skin really right?!)…that’s why it’s important to protect skin while you are at the cottage (and everywhere — all year long).
AVEENO® Baby is the sunscreen I trust the most to keep baby’s (and my) delicate skin safe in the sun. Yes, I have always used the with ACTIVE NATURALS® Colloidal Oatmeal as a trusted party of my sun-safe plan. Why? Because it works. It’s a mineral sunscreen that has broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection and its active ingredients are 100% naturally sourced. Added bonus – it’s not greasy! I can feel confident about us enjoying cottage activities without the worry of sun burns or sun damage.
What I do is leave the lotion inside the front door of the cottage – that way – before we head out – everyone gets a squirt here and there to cover their bits and pieces. Then, I take my favourite AVEENO® Baby sun product – the AVEENO® Baby Sensitive Skin Mineral Sunscreen Face Stick SPF 50 and I carry it down to the dock to reapply throughout the day. That Aveeno Baby stick has seen me through days at the cottage, mornings at the park, walks in the neighbourhood…heck, I even packed it when we took the baby to Spain for our family beach vacation. If you have sunscreen within arms’ reach…you are more likely to use it!
And finally, portable baby gear can be a sanity saver at a cottage (for example: play pen, sun protection tent, travel bed, portable high chair). And it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Put the word out on your social channels that you are heading to the cottage for the first time with baby and ask if anyone can lend you baby travel gear.
