P & G Thank You Mom – Meet Andre De Grasse’s Mom

June 23, 2016 17 Comments

Get ready to smile when you read this P & G Thank You Mom – Meet Andre De Grasse’s Mom profile. I am beyond honoured to be an ambassador to support our P & G Olympic athletes and moms for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The athlete I will be profiling, leading up to and during the Olympics, is Canada’s own Andre De Grasse (who was born in Scarborough — ironically — so was I). Andre is proudly supported by Gillette. P & G Thank You Mom Meet Andre De Grasse's Mom

P & G Thank You Mom – Strong | Rio 2016 Olympic Games

It takes someone strong.
To make someone strong.
Thank You, Mom.

With days until the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Procter & Gamble (maker of Tide®, Pampers® and Head & Shoulders®) debuted the newest installment of its award-winning “Thank You, Mom” campaign by releasing the new video, “Strong.”

“Strong” explores the simple human truth that the daily courage moms show echoes at critical times throughout their kids’ lives. The film follows the Olympic Games journeys of four moms and their kids, showing the moments, both large and small, when a mother’s strength makes all the difference, and building to the moment each child summons their own courage on the world’s biggest stage – the Olympic Games.

Watching “Strong” made me think of all the times I’ve had to be strong as a Mom — and when I’ve had to encourage my kids to find their own strength. Prime example: when I took my daughter to her first karate class. She was so timid. It would have been easy to say”No, you don’t have to go“. But we went. There were days I didn’t want to get up and drive us. There were days when she made mistakes. But she powered through. We both powered through.

And today…she is a black belt. She teaches karate to girls coming in for their first karate class. Her commitment, discipline, and athleticism has made me so proud.

Andre De Grasse ->Medal-winning Canadian Sprinter

Andre De Grasse’s 100 m time of 9.97 helped him win the Pac-12 championship in May 2015 and was the first time a Canadian ran under 10 seconds since Donovan Bailey. De Grasse won the gold medal in the 100 m with a time of 10.05 at the 2015 Pan American Games held in Ontario, Canada.

His mother is Beverley De Grasse.

When asked how she supports her son, Beverley says this: “We talk all day everyday. Messaging each other. Any issue any problem always comes to me and talks about it. A lot of kids won’t – he comes to me.”

On the subject of how she was able to maintain a household yet still get Andre to practice, Beverley says: “My life was for Andre – worked full time. Having the big support system from family really helped. Andre suffered during the early years so wanted to really make sure that he had a good life after that part of my life was finished. Put my whole self forward to support him.”

Join me, in cheering on Andre De Grasse and his Mom Beverely…on their journey to Rio.

Share: If you were to say THANK YOU, MOM – to your Mom — what would it be for?…

Disclosure: I am a P & G ambassador. As part of my affiliation with this group I have been compensated. As always, the opinions on are my own.

First off, Congratulations to your daughter on her black belt! What a proud feeling she (& you) must feel!
Hey, I was born in Scarborough too!

I love that Andre and his Mom talk all day everyday! I hope my boys and girl talk to me all day everyday too when they grow up!

This is one of my favorite P&G programs!

Her black belt was a milestone moment. It showed her (our) commitment to sport.

And another member of Team Scarborough?! 🙂

I’m so glad P & G supports our Canadian athletes like Andre and his Mom.

Congrats to all moms that are there for their kids. I have to say congrats to you too, even though your daughter isn’t on her way to the olympics, she’s doing something she loves now and you supported her through it.

I love this idea from P & G. You know that these athletes had to have so much support to get where they are now. Great way to celebrate that!
