It’s become the norm that when someone asks how you’re doing or how you’ve been the honest answer is always “busy.” These days, it seems as though you’re expected to be in five places at once and juggle the weight of the world – and there just simply aren’t enough hours in a day.
Try something you’ve never done before as a family and enjoy your time together by embracing the great Canadian Winter with these exciting activities:
Go snowshoeing: Chances are, you’re not too far from a national park or scenic trail that is optimal for snowshoeing. Snowshoes have come a long way from the tennis racket-esque versions you’re probably expecting and are often available to rent from national parks or adventure stores. It’s a great way to take in the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful scenery – not to mention it’s great exercise and your kids will love the novelty of floating on top of the snow!
Build a snow cave: It’s also likely that there are ample amounts of snow not too far away – or even in your own backyard. Building a snow cave is a simple cold-day activity. Make sure you have enough shovels for the whole family – it’s a team effort. Once the structure is complete, let it harden for a few hours and then create an entrance way and hollow it out. If it’s big enough, you can even carve out snow benches inside! Grab your snow pants and chill out – literally – with a cup of hot chocolate to add warmth.
Make a Snow Man. What’s the politically correct version of this: Snow Person? Heck, make a whole Snow Family so no one is left out!
Visit somewhere new: Canada is chalk-full of amazing winter destinations featuring everything from scenic ski resorts to lively festivals. Whether it’s teaching the kids to skate on Ottawa’s Rideau Canal or visiting the Northwest Territories to take in the northern lights, find something your family will enjoy and will remember for years to come.
Trying to keep up with your kids isn’t always easy – and is often tougher the next day when those aches and pains set in. Topical pain relievers like RUB·A535™ Extra Strength Heating Cream have you covered. It starts to work on contact and provides fast acting pain relief of muscle and joint pain.
Trying something brand new will not only be different and exciting, but will also break up the monotonous schedules we adhere to when juggling work and family. Getting outside is also great for your health!

We had a snow day here today and my two were out working on a snow fort for the entire day.
Where I live there is no snow days, but we do have cold days (at least this year). I remember when I was a kid and would build snow forts.
These are all great winter activities. Even though I’m not a big fan of the winter I would love to see the northern lights.
Building a snow cave sounds like a lot of fun. It’s like winter fort building!
I love making snow persons (LOL!) and playing outside in general when it snows. Even shoveling the sidewalk can be fun if you do it together as a family. 😉
I live in Florida so no winter activities for me. But When we go back home to NJ we will keep these in mind!
We built a snow cave last year, it was so fun! This year we barely had any snow in our area.
These are some great ideas. My daughters and I went sledding at our local golf course over the weekend. We had so much fun! They have such great hills for going sledding. Always a fun time!
These are great winter family activities. I have not been snowshoeing in years. I will have to go this weekend.
We love to get outside in the winter. Snowshoeing is great exercise and so much fun.
We always make a snowman when we get the first snowfall. It is fun to make snow paint with food coloring to make cool art in the snow.
I remember doing some of these when I was young. The kids in the neighborhood always tried to make snow forts and then had snowball fights.
We certainly have enough snow to make a snowman here! Too bad my kids cry after being outside for like 10 mins!
