If you know me well…you know I live my life around my IBS (fact of life unfortunately). Which makes me very aware of digestive health….mine…and my family’s digestive health. I’m sharing some information on Probiotics and Digestive Health here because Priobiotics have been part of my daily routine and gut healthy program for a few years now….maybe it can help your gut health too…
What Are Probiotics?
Live micro-organisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host
– World Health Organization
I know you might be thinking “live micro-organisms?!” – don’t worry it’s not a horror movie type of thing. I take my probiotic in pill form (easy to swallow!) every morning with my breakfast. Nothing scary about that!
Probiotics and Digestive Health
What do probiotics treat? Diarrheal illness, Treatment and prevention of viral diarrhea, Prevention of antibiotic- associated diarrhea, BV and yeast vaginitis, Improves cure rate when combined with antimicrobials*1
Here’s the thing with my IBS – completely unreliable. And anyone with IBS knows the frustration, shame, uncontrollable-ness that makes an IBS sufferer feel. It’s horrible.
Since taking a daily probiotic I have found my symptoms (including bloating and pain) and episodes (my friends call them my “thunderstorms”) are less frequent.
To the point where, if I haven’t brought my probiotic with me on a trip…I notice a negative difference in my digestion within days. I realize that a daily probiotic is key to keeping my gut healthy.
Probiotics come in many forms – see below. They are easy, portable, readily available things you can take to improve your digestive health…which improves your overall health.
Ferring formulas are based on research and proven strains that promote the healthy bacteria in your body. When you need a product for a serious digestive condition you want a high potency product that contains hundreds of billions of CFU’s proven to support your condition, or mild enough to treat an infant in discomfort, and tough enough to deal with chronic IBS.

I have lots of plans…travel, adventures, goals, date nights and more. I don’t want my IBS to hold me back from my plans which is exactly why I pay attention to my gut health.
Since having a nasty episode with H Pylori early this year and the triple therapy treatment to hopefully cure it, I have had to take a probiotic daily, I tried without the probiotic but I had awful and embarrassing stomach problems, I am hoping that they will go away eventually!
I have been thinking a lot about trying these lately. I’ve gotten a lot of great information from this post, so thank you.
I take probiotics. I always try to take them AND eat probiotics yogurt if I am on antibiotics.
I take probiotics all the time. I had an issue a couple of years ago, and they were recommended to me. I’ve felt great ever since.
I didn’t know probiotics were so good for you. I need to start taking them.
I have been hearing a lot about them. Good info to know.
I need to get back in the habit of taking a daily probiotic. I remember feeling less bloated and more comfortable when they were a regular part of my supplement routine.
Oh this is such great useful information. I am always feeling so bloated and need to do something to change that. Appreciate the information!
I always like the option of a homeopathic type approach especially with a chronic health condition. I have a friend with IBS. I’m going to send her a link to your post. You have some great suggestions.
I have been hearing so much about probiotics. I have been wanting to try one for a while now.

I did take a probiotic but it has been a while. Sounds like it could really help me.
After I had my gallbladder removed I had some serious intestinal issues. Once we were able to resolve those I had to get good stuff back in my intestines. A good probiotic was essential to my health care.
I learned a lot about probiotics today. It’s great that it’s a small pill and easy to take.
Thanks for all the info about probiotics. I’d always heard they were good for you, but I didn’t know all this!
