What To Pack On A Family Day Out

May 25, 2015 22 Comments

Back from some family field trips and I thought it timely to share What To Pack On A Family Day Out. You want the essential items your family needs without the bulk of carry a lot of weight in your bag. These tips on What To Pack On A Family Day Out may make your outings a little easier…

What To Pack On A Family Day Out

What To Pack On A Family Day Out

To start, I ditched my regular Nella Bella cardinal tote – which I love but can be too bulky for a day trip. I opt for a sling bag like this MEC right shoulder sling (one of my fav. features of my MEC bag is that the water bottle holder is on the outside of the bag for easy hydration). You definitely want hands free on a family outing.

Next were my essentials that I knew would come in handy on a day trip with my kids.

  • Tissue (for drippy noses and possible knee scrapes).
  • AVEENO® BABY® Sensitive Skin Face Sun Stick SPF 50 (I LOVE this stick for me and the kids – it’s compact, effective, and not greasy to put on)
  • Breath mints (OK, that’s just for me 😉 )
  • First aid kit (yes, that little black wallet is my portable first aid kit which I DIY’d – band aids & Tylenol)
  • Granola bar (because my kids get grumpy when they are hungry…so do I)
  • House key (obvious reasons)
  • Hand sanitizer (because not all public washrooms have soap so yuck)
  • Water bottle (I like Thermos funtainers because they are non-spill – plus I can chill them up in the fridge so water stays cold for hours)
  • Wallet (because you never know when you might stop for ice cream!).
  • And this is only what I carried. I had my kids wear weather appropriate clothes (including hats and sunglasses).

No, I don’t carry extra kid clothes with me…but I did learn a lesson after my son decided to go up to his knees in a lake…pack a change of clothes in a bag and leave them in the car. That way – at least the kids are dry as you drive home!

For us it’s snacks. I never leave home without lots of snacks.

On a family day out, I MUST have my chapstick and Tylenol for the kids. I normally overpack but better to be safe than sorry.

I think most of these items stay in my car at all times. I don’t like to be caught unprepared!

These are serious essentials. It is the worst when public restrooms don’t have soap!

I’m not a big hand sanitizer person, but it is good in case of emergency! Definitely sunscreen too.

All these are essential items for travel. Great list idea for travel with kids and I do follow the same list most times. A informative post to share with friends too.

With an infant and a four year old, a change of clothes each is a MUST! So many spills and messes!
