I am le terrible at public speaking (ironic – because I won my Gr. 8 public speaking contest). I’m pretty much a scaredy-cat at heart. Or hobbit. Perhaps a bit of both. Public speaking is my weak point. So, what am I doing about it?!…I’m going to overcome my scaredy-cat-hobbit-public-speaking-phobia. Thus…I introduce you to my Parent Club Trailer…
*cringes at watching Parent Club trailer*
I am no Danielle Smith or Bethany Mota (obviously – right?!).
It took takes upon takes to get that Parent Club trailer (because according to the numerous playbacks of videos which didn’t make the cut – I say UMMMM a whole lot!).
And I get flustered on camera. Often.
So why am I trying to overcome something in which I only see flaws?!
Because I can learn from it.
I can learn about how to overcome public speaking issues. I can learn video and video editing. I can learn about using Youtube for more than watching music videos. It’s all about experience n’est pas?! Learn how to do something – and you won’t be afraid of it.
And plus, from a writing & blogging standpoint – I need this skill. Remember when I did the Blogger Makeover with Parent Club | Shift a Shade by Clairol video? It was a great learning experience (and not just hair and make up) but working with a brand, crew, key messaging (and yes, I flubbed my speaking – lots – that day too).
Or the Finish Power & Free Testimonial – Caroline which has 90,905 views; showing video is a popular platform!
And my book appearances – where you would think I just sit and sign books – but really I need to connect with people through speaking to sell my book.
Here is my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheCarolineFernandez (“parent club” was already taken).
So…I’m taking on learning something new. *deep breath*
I love it! You did so great! No one will ever know how many times you rehearsed it or how many takes it took to get the perfect intro. Trust me it will get easier. You will feel more comfortable, and you will be more at ease and care less about the little mistakes. In my first video I spoke too fast, said um, 500 times and forgot a bunch of things I needed to include, but editing is your best friend and everyone has to start somewhere. Keep going. YouTube is a great way to connect with your readers in a more personal way!
You have done so well with you writing, congrats!
