True confession: I think the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is a great device for families. Honest-to-goodness truth. I created this Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Tutorial to show you my favourite features about how this tool replaces your laptop and your tablet…
Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Tutorial
And what do we think about me vlogging? It’s a work-in-progress but with all the great tech tools in the Microsoft Surface Pro 3– I’m inspired to try my hand at a vlog.
Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Tutorial Tips…
The Charms Menu. Swipe in from the right hand side of the screen to discover the charms menu. Here you can easily access the search box, settings, wifi connectivity, volume controls and more. Make finding things so much easier!
Windows button + D button. This is an great tip. On your keyboard, press the windows button and the D button together and you can toggle between the tiles screen and the desktop screen (where you can access the Microsoft Office suite of Word, Excel, Powepoint).
Picture Password screen. Just fun and something different from laptop password boxes.
Split screen. Great function for students and pretty much anyone who works. Browse on one side and work on a doc on the other. Or have two docs open. Email and doc. Browser and email. Browser and browser. The possibilities are limitless.
Surface Pen. Great for both work, life, and student use. Write directly on the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 screen in One Note using your Surface Pen. Brainstorm, make lists, highlight. You can also use the Surface Pen to cut and paste and screen capture into One Note.
User friendly. Swipe down to exit an app or program. Swipe left or right to move along screen. Swipe up to access the app menu. You don’t need a mouse! Also, in the Food & Drink app (which comes installed on the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 there is a handsfree function, where you can move your hand infront of the Surface camera and it will turn the page as you look at a recipe).
Different accounts for multiple users. I wrote about this in my Best of Work and Play – Microsoft Windows post – such a great way to separate emails, files, and games between users. My kids can’t access my files when they are on their user profile. It also allows me to have their tile screen to be kid-safe by having only things I put there available for them.
Portable and light weight. Powerful as a tool but portable enough to pack in a bag and use at home, in the office or on vacation.
Share…what are your favourite features on your device?
Disclosure: I received product to help facilitate this review. And the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is very impressive. As always, the opinions in this post are my own. #BetterWithWindows8
sounds like a nifty little device. I do like that there can be different accounts for multiple users – I find that a great safety feature so that you can feel safe letting the kids use it too 🙂
This sounds very interesting,I like the safety feature
That sounds great for our family. My kids and I would all be able to use this and I think we’d all love it.
I still haven’t made the switch to Windows 8 yet because of all the horror stories I’ve heard. Thanks for showing me that it’s not quite the evil devil that some people say it is! Time to jump into the modern era.
Sounds cool…I’m not very tech savvy but my husband would enjoy this!
The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is super friendly – bet you don’t need to be techy at all!
SOunds perfect for the kids who are loving a Minecraft a lot right now!
I do like that there are different screens for different users. It’s hard to keep your stuff straight when your children pick up your screen time and change things. 🙂
exactly – setting up different user accounts on the Microsoft Surface was a life saver for me.
I have the Surface 1 and I love it. It is the best! I don’t think I would ever switch back to a regular laptop.
Surface 1 is a great device
I have not tried a Surface tablet yet! I have heard several great things about it before looks super handy!

I’ve heard such great things about the Surface Pro tablets! I’m still an iPad girl, but I could see why people love these.
Switch from the iPad side *insert Darth Vador voice here*
I love that surface pen! That would be so much fun for my toddler to use on games.
My 4 year old loves the Surface pen
I’m using a regular old laptop, so this would be a huge change for me. It looks great, but I’m not sure my brain is up to it!
It is so user friendly – your brain would love it 😉
You did a wonderful job by breaking this down to make it easy for kids to grasp it. Enjoyed your tutorial very much.
