Given the fact of being a family blogger – and that I have survived winter upon winter with three kids – I’m often asked for advice on essential winter baby gear. Thus, I’m sharing my top 6 Baby Gear Items You Need For Winter…I have used various forms of all of these must-haves…and let me tell you…they will make winter easier!
6 Baby Gear Items You Need For Winter
- You need a three wheel stroller! Nothing else will get you through snow and slush better. I used a Baby Trend Expedition stroller with my last baby and it was budget-friendly and really reliable. This is my number 1 must-have for baby gear items you need for winter. TIP: if the snow is so high you can push through it – turn your three wheeler around and pull it! - You need a car seat cover! Forget putting an infant into a snowsuit (so not easy!). A car seat cover allows you to safely buckle your child into their car seat with warmth. It’s also easy to uncover when you get to where you are going. (Pictured: JJ Cole Urban Bundle Me – Black)
- You need a stroller blanket! Yes a regular blanket will do the trick but I really recommend a stroller blanket. Why? Because it provides warmth at the back and front of your child, it has universal openings for the seat belt, and they are generally water resistant (great for when you are walking through a snow storm). I had a toddler size one which I used for years. (Pictured above: Nomie Baby royal blue toddler cozy footmuff).
- You need good baby lotion. We all get dry skin from the cold so using a soothing baby lotion for infant sensitive skin is really important. It’s also a nice calming action to incorporate into the bedtime routine. (Pictured above: Aveeno Baby Daily Lotion).
- You need a car blanket! Car blankets are not only for your vehicle emergency kit – they keep your kids warm in cold minivans. TIP: take your car blanket into your destination with you – that way it is warm to bundle up kids when they go back to the vehicle. (Pictured above: JJ Cole Essentials Blanket – Gray Red)
- You need a hands-free diaper bag! Because you need to walk on snow, ice, slush – and you are often holding a lil’ one’s hand or carrying them in your own arms – it is best to be hands-free in the winter. I am still using a dated Skip Hop bag which slings over my shoulder tho now I’m crushing on the Skip Hop Duo Signature Diaper Bag – Chevron pictured above.
Baby needs to also be dressed appropriately! Good ittems listed!
Absolutely they need to be dressed appropriately! Great comment.
Sorry, but car seat manufactures don’t allow bundle me bags to be used in their seats. Any thing that goes in the seat that goes between the child and the seat is not allowed. Covers that go over the shell of the seat and doesn’t interfere with the harness is much safer.
I’m so glad you commented @Mapsgirl – I had no idea! I used a bundle me bag with all three of my kids (bought here in major stores in Canada – wouldn’t you think they would be a warning on the bundle me bags if they are not allowed?).
Gotta keep the babies dressed appropriately!
some good tips and comments too. I agree that there should be a warning on the bundle me bags if that makes it unsafe for the child – I’m disgusted that there isn’t one!
Great tips thanks! Even the aveeno for the mommys is helpful to have nice soft hands so as not to scratch baby
Great article… I shared it with a friend who recently gave birth. Thanks!
