One of the latest additions to our menu is Family Taco Night. It’s a fun and healthy family meal. Plus, in our house, it’s a very social event as we have lots of chatting and sharing and passing during the meal. I recommend making your own Family Taco Night over the winter holidays – it’s a great way to warm up and dish in!…
Key Family Taco Night Ingredient Suggestions…
- Cooked ground beef with taco seasoning
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
- Shredded cheese (we like cheddar)
- Tortillas (try Dempster’s Black Bean and Salsa tortillas – with 6 tortillas per pack I recommend having 2 – 3 packages on hand for large families like mine). Dempster’s Black Bean and Salsa tortillas add another layer of flavour to soft tacos.
- Diced tomatoes
- Avocado slices
- Taco hot sauce
- Black beans
- Onions
- Mild salsa
- Canned sweet corn (rinsed and drained)
Family Taco Night Tips…
- Fresh veggies are the best for flavour, nutrition, and texture.
- Pre-cut, shred, and pre-cook ingredients as necessary so that you can serve your taco ingredients buffet style.
- Ensure everyone washes their hands before dinner (tacos are a hands-on no utensil meal!).
- You can freeze tortillas when you come back from grocery shopping and just defrost the night before you Family Taco Night.
- Place Dempster’s Black Bean and Salsa tortillas on a microwave safe plate, place a damp paper towel over top, and warm in microwave for 30 seconds before serving. Keep a clean kitchen towel over top of tortilla plate to keep them warm throughout the dinner.
- Put on some Spanish music to set the mood.
- It’s ok for everyone to eat a taco their own way. My son needs two hands to hold a taco. My daughter rolls her taco. I prefer a taco fold myself.
I find Family Taco night to be one of the most stress-free meals we have. It takes little time to prep (cut the veggies, cook the ground beef and put all the ingredients in bowls). And each of my kids likes different ingredients – which makes this one of the best liked winter meals in our house. One just likes tortilla, beef and lettuce. Another likes tortilla, beef, salsa and lettuce. And my adventurous eater piles on beef, salsa, hot sauce, lettuce, avocado and ground beef onto her tortilla.

We love mexican food too! Fast and tasty!
we all love Tacos here. We often have them with ground beef like your recipe or chicken strips, lettuce, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, green onions, sometimes bell peppers diced or mushrooms and often sour cream. I leave the spicy things like salsa for the rest of the family 🙂

I totally forgot about taco’s. I haven’t had them in years. Your recipe is so unique and I love that it includes Avocado’s. These look really tasty and extremely healthy. Thanks for the recipe and reminder to have taco’s for dinner!
Family Taco Night is a great idea and the kids love it because its a tactile meal. Its super-important to me to have kids who are exposed to all kinds of world cuisine and foods, so this is a great little introduction to Mexican.
