At what age should kids have cell phones? My answer: depends on the kid (maturity & responsibility) and the situation (need & use). In this Back To School Motorola moto g post we look at the specs on the moto g and asks the question: is your student ready for a cell phone?
I decided to give my oldest child a cell phone when she had to travel to school by herself. Over the years, she has proven herself to be responsible in keeping track of her things as well as having the maturity to make common sense decisions. Thus, I knew she would not lose the cell phone nor would she be playing with it in class. We were both ready for her to have a cell phone.

Is your student ready for a cell phone?…
What Do I Suggest You Look For In A Student Cell Phone
Camera. Silly that this is the first point – but really a camera is one of the most-used student features in a cell phone. The motorola moto g has a front and rear camera with LED flash, 4X digital zoom, Slow motion video,Burst mode, Auto HDR, Panorama, and Tap to Focus. Yes, your student will be using all of these – daily.
Operating System. the motorola moto g runs Android 4.4 KitKat® – which means your student will be able to access all the apps and games they want. And yes, they use apps. Often.
Size. Can it fit in a back pocket (that’s a huge factor these days!). The morotola moto g demensions of Height 129.9 mm and Width 65.9 mm allow for easy back pocket carry-age.
Screen. Yes, they want a good screen for videos. At 4.5 inches the moto g is pretty sufficient.
Battery life. heaven forbid they loose battery mid-day. An all-day battery is a must.
Extras. texts, music, SIM contacts, even actually using it as a phone (which really – students rarely phone these days – texts are so much more preferred).
Disclosure: a motorola moto g was supplied for this post. And yes, I have had the discussion about cyberbullying, sexting, and data usage with my cell phone using child. As always, the opinions in this post are my own.
I think this is the phone that I have and I love it. My son, who’s knowledgeable about these things picked this one out for me. I’m sure a student would be happy with most any phone when it’s their first 🙂 however I do agree that this would be a good phone for them.
I have a moto g and love it. Great phone!
