I saw The Notebook on T.V. the other day and I must say…I laughed, I cried, I connected with the Moms in that movie. It made me think of some of my favourite Mom movies…not so much about movies that have Moms in them…but about the Mother/Child relationships within the films. Here my fav Top Movies For Mom…
- The Notebook (oh how I love this movie). The relationship between the Mom/Child is so distant (yet closer than the daughter realizes). And when the older Mom doesn’t recognize her own kids later in life…I was in tears.
- Steel Magnolias. Sally Field wanting to protect Juila Roberts and Julia wanting to live life to the fullest. It makes you want to hold your kids tighter but let them go both at the same time.
- Chocolat. The Mom’s gypsy-like moves inspire you to adventure but the daughter’s need for roots pulls you into the relationship. Is a child better if they are taught to move and adapt or do they need the stability and structure of one place?
- StepMom. Difficult thing…bringing a new Mom figure into the family. I can’t image it would be easy. For the current Mom. The kids. The StepMom.
- Forest Gump. I know you don’t think “Mother/child” relationship when you think Forest Gump. But the Sally Field character really does everything she can (from boarding Elvis, to canoodling with the principal, to calming Forest’s fears as she dies) to ensure her child is taken care of and has a future.
Movies are a great way to escape and also a great wake up call to appreciate the now.
Do you have a fav Mom movie?
I always become a puddle of tears when I watch The Notebook! I love it, I love the lead actors and I love that they are both Canadian!
Is the female lead Cdn too? I didn’t know that. Now I love it even more.
Graet choices! I haven’t seen Forest Gump in years – that’s one I need to watch again 🙂
I could watch Forest Gump over and over. It’d be a great sick day movie (you know…if Moms ever get sick days off…which doesn’t happen right?)
I love the Notebook and Stepmom!! I can’t think of a favourite mom movie but I like your list.
I didn’t see the beginning of The Notebook – wish it was on repeat.
