Back when I was 1st time pregnant, I didn’t know to create a baby registry (heck, I didn’t even know what I needed!). Baby gear, baby travel, baby feeding, baby bathing, baby clothing all eluded me (I was pretty sure I needed diapers though). If I could go back in time and talk to pregnant-me…I would suggest – take a minute and create a baby registry – help take the guesswork out of giving.
I did have a baby shower with baby #1 (and then, with babies 2 & 3, friends kindly hand delivered gift bags and meals – there is a special place in heaven for people who bring cooked dinner to parents-of-newborns!).
Because I hadn’t shared colours, themes, needs and wants…we recieved a mish-mash of baby gear (all very welcome – some duplicates – some, unfortunately never used…I mean, how many flannel blankets does one baby need?!).
Really, when it comes to preparing for a baby, you need to cover sleep, storage, changing, clothes and feeding. These 5 categories are my top recommendations for a baby registry.
And because I was curious about what my baby registry could have been, I checked out the virtual space for Sears Canada Gift Registry. Free, easy-to-use, and fairly comprehensive – this on-line tool allows you to create a registry and add items directly from the Sears site in minutes.
TIP: With Sears you can choose to accept gift cards as part of your registry – nice when you aren’t exactly sure what you might need (or for gift givers to chip in for a big-ticket item like a crib or stroller)
My experienced-Mom-tips for baby registry users:
- Add items in a wide price range so that gift givers have a budget choice
- Choose an on-line baby registry (so that friends & family from all over can participate)
- Decide on a colour theme to help guide gift choices (white is a classic neutral and chocolate-brown is a sophisticated neutral)
Disclosure: I am part of the Sears – The Baby’s Room Ambassador program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
Gift cards are a great idea! Wonderful post! We just love Sears The Baby’s Room!
Thanks – and yes – gift cards are a great one-size-fits-all option.
Sears is a very good gift registsy, free shipping across Canada helps too
I’ve heard Sears with my friends and never had a chance to visit it. Will try to visit this online tool for preparation for next month delivery. Thanks for sharing this post to us.
