Robert Munsch: Canadian children’s author, Dad, assistant professor, Member of Order of Canada, creator of “The Paper Bag Princess”, “I Will Love You Forever”, “I Have To Go Pee”. Yes, THAT Robert Munsch. I had the great opportunity to sit down with him at the Ontario Science Centre recently and discuss one-on-one writing tips for kids and the importance of family literacy.
Having survived a stroke in 2008, his speech is somewhat slowed but his enthusiasm for literacy is as strong as ever. As honourary chair of #FamilyLiteracyDay (an initiate by ABC Life Literacy) he is the perfect spokesperson to encourage families to read together everyday.
What a wonderful interview! Robert is very much a gem in the literary world!
Thank you and I must say – I had a total ‘fangirl’ moment meeting such an icon of kids lit.
I remember meeting Mr. Munsch when he visited my elementary school in the ’80s. What a wonderful author he is! “Love You Forever” is and always will be my favorite book ever!
I read somewhere that he did surprise school visits and would just show up. It must have been a great experience.
I remember reading “I Will Love You Forever” to my children when they were little. Robert Munsch was a favourite read!
Did you know he wrote “I Will Love You Forever” in memory of two stillborn babies? Brings even more feeling to the story.
Ooo you’re so lucky!Great interview!
