Upon leaving the We Day concert this year, my daughter decided she wanted to do something to help the world. She decided the Me to We Penny Drive was it. It was not only an activity but a purpose.
You see, the penny will soon go out of circulation so Me to We and RBC bank have partnered to collect pennies and give someone in a developing country sustainable water. It only takes $25 – a reachable goal for any penny collecting kid.
It amazed me how my daughter “owned” this cause. She asked friends and family to empty their penny containers. We scoured through pockets and wallets for lonely pennies. My shy kid even mustered up enough self-confidence to do a presentation before her entire class asking for her classmates to donate their stray pennies.
It was an amazing journey for her in terms of empowerment and energy.
We are almost at the $25 goal line and will soon be dropping off our donation bag to an RBC bank.
Not only have we done a family activity, helped someone get clean water…we also gave a proved a small kid can make a big difference.
Have you done a family activity to help others? Share!
Wow! Very easy way to help out! I like the idea!
